First point: Characters
90% of the praise I hear for Twilight is 'Edward Cullen is SO HAWTT!' and the other 10% of it is something along the lines of "everybody can relate to Bella"
First off, on the Cullen comment:
Second: that's half the reason his character sucks! One can sum up Eddie's whole character by saying he is the good looking male of an exciting race (popular in teen fiction) who falls for the main character. He's supposed to be all dark and shadowy because of the vampirism, but really; what's he got to complain about? He gets superpowers, he gets the main character, he's rich, and he had looks. And thats the whole point, which brings me to our leading lady, Bella
The reason girls like Bella's character is that they feel they can relate, which makes it easier to wish/pretend they ARE that character. Let me clarify some of this.
The reason y'all feel you can relate, which makes it easier to project yourselves onto her character, is because she is the idealized version of every highschool girl ever to exist. She's got the exaggerated version of what every highschool girl feels they suffer from: an annoying/messed up family, no friends (oh, but that would make her undesirable, so lets give her one really good friend!) yet she's good looking, and an incredibly sexy boy of an exciting race falls for her.
In short, Bella is a fantasy. Girls like bella because they can project themselves onto her and indirectly live out that fantasy through her.
Point Two: Plot
Wait, plot? We need a plot? Plots are for well-written fics with in-depth, believable characters who have undesirable traits! No plot for twilight, lets just throw a highschool girl and a hot vampire guy together and see what happens as they interact.
Newsflash: a story aobut a relationship is freaking boring.
Well, so much for being unbiased, btu I promised from the beginning that "twilight sucks" was the point I woudl try to prove, and I DID show the other sides (Eddy is sexy (not as sexy as Ed Elric!) Bella is what many girls want to be (uh yeah, tahts why she sucks) so lets call it square.
