Okay, a couple of points here. Mostly on the chorus. The chorus changes, but the principle is the same. 'how can you like that girl, her and me are such opposites and you belong with me'
Shouldn't that the narrator and the subject's girlfriend are opposites, be a clue that he is NOT attracted to her type? I mean honestly.
Second, the very title and theme of the song 'you belong with me.' one can easily append 'and only me' to the end with this song's mentality. Speaking of mentality, doesnt the narrator here sound like one of those six year old girls who believes she's the only one who won't scare the butterfly away? get over yourself; you're not one in a million, your one OF a million; and its not such a bad thing. The narrator seems to have the idea that since she's so attracted to this guy, he must subconsciously be attracted to her, as well. She has no logical reasoning for this, so she assumes that it must jsut be destiny. Theres's logic for ya.
Second, anothe rpoint the song centers around; that the narrator is the 'only one' who understands the subject. Is this guy totally friendless or what? How can the narrator be so entirely certain that she isn't the one misunderstanding, idealizing the subject she admires to fit what she wants. To me, it makes more sense that her admiration in cooperation with the above mentality make her the one who MISUNDERSTANDS, instead of the lone, single person who understands.
Really, this is the mentality of any ghighschool crush; I like this guy, why doen'st he like me back? There's no logical evidence, it must be destiny which means I'm really the only one for him.
Wake up and move on, hon, you're not that special.
and for those of you who want to tell me to get a life and stop obsessign over songs I don't like, or worse to 'stop ripping on taylor', I have one thing left to say;
I'm not obsessing over her songs, but this one annoys me and I wanted to write about why; second, I"ve nothing against Taylor, I'm sure she's a nice person. I just don't like her music.
