It's very hard to save up gold when the temptation is there. There's this little voice in the back of my head that says "for 38k, you could get very lucky and get your moon without having to save up!!!" But I always fail :X
I decided to try to play the marketplace more heavily, but since I don't have a lot of experience, I've made a few poor decisions on slow-moving investments and most of my gold is tied up in items now. I guess that keeps me from gambling :X
