innocence and angel wings
part 6
(still Rachael's POV)
We pulled into the driveway of a nice two-story brick house. "Nice place," I heard Dad comment. We got out of the car, some more gracefully than others. Being me, I fell out onto the driveway then quickly scrambled to my feet, hoping no one had seen. But, as usual, I hoped in vain. I heard my father laugh, Roxane gasped, and could feel Renae's eyes on me as she watched me struggle to my feet. "Are you okay, Rachael?" Roxane asked, concerned. "Don't worry," my dad assured her before I could answer. "Happens all the time." I nodded sheepishly. Roxane didn't seem to buy it, but she said nothing more as we walked into the house. I let out a sigh. I could tell this was going to be a very long evening of interrogations, secrets coming to light, and much more. "Questions and everything else tomorrow," Roxane announced after dinner. "It's late. The girls need their rest. Tomorrow's Saturday. Does anyone have to be anywhere in particular tomorrow? Any plans?" I shook my head, as did my dad. I never went anywhere on Saturdays. I had always been a loner, so I didn't have anyone to really hang out with on the weekends. So I just stayed home, and kept myself locked up in my room to avoid any of Dad's wild party friends. Dad always partied with a bunch of his old high school buddies, or random people he'd met at a bar and became friends with, on Saturdays. "Alright then. Renae, why don't you give Rachael a tour of the house while Jason and I have a little chat?" Roxane asked, smiling. "'Kay" was all Renae said as she motioned for me to follow her.
