It was actually pretty great. It started on Christmas Eve actually, since everybody here knew that I was going to be gone the next day. We went to pick up my sister Sonnet from the airport (she lives in Alabama now) and after that we went through Little Tokyo. We looked at all kinda of anime stores and she bought me a Saiyuki manga and a little figurine of Captain Basch from FFXII. Then, we ate at a nice restaurant. I ordered chicken teriyaki and it was great. What surprised me is that I tried a California roll and I actually liked it. So I can't say that I hate sushi anymore.
After we got home I got all kinds of presents from my friends and family. The biggest surprise was the gift my brother Caleb gave me. He gave me a surfer dude's necklace. Srsly. Now, I'm not really the necklace type. It's funny, because I think jewelry is pretty and I used to collect it... but, I rarely wore any of it. I don't think I'll wear the one he got me much either. It's nice enough looking and all, but aside from the fact that I don't wear that stuff anymore in the first place, it's not really very comfortable at all. The fact that he'd actually respect me enough to get me a men's anything though, is pretty awesome. See? It really is the thought that counts.
Well, you already know what my sister got me. She also got me a couple tiger stickers and a good movie. My mother got me some jeans, and some friends got me some perfume. Guess they forgot that I'm allergic to it. Seriously, I'm not joking about that. I'd break out in hives really bad, it's happened before. Another friend of the family got me an MP3 player. It's only 256MB, but it's the first one I've ever had, which is probably even more pathetic than the storage size in that thing. Also, my dad got me a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart, which has mysteriously come up missing. If Richard ends up spending it, then he owes me the full amount. Anyway, I was surprised because my dad usually only gives me $50. I guess making up with him had some benefits after all.
The next day we headed out to Simi Valley to see the kids... at five-something in the goddamn morning. I didn't even get to sleep until 2 am that night, so you can imagine how tired I was. Still, it was pretty good. The kids all got tons of presents, and Richard's folks gave the two of us new coats. Just what I needed, really... since all I have right now is a puny little wind-breaker. Anyway, we spent almost 9 hours over there helping the kids open their presents and play with their toys, as well as eating Christmas dinner. But after that we left because Richard was getting to tired and didn't want to fall asleep on the way home.
There were a few things that bothered me, like the way Jodi complained when I shot a plastic missile in my son's general direction. Granted, I was shooting it at him, but it's only plastic and it's not like I was aiming for his face or anything. Those guys are way too uptight. Then there was the time Dustin climbed up the stairs, and the time that Jeweliana crashed her brother's remote control car into a wall. I'm sure she blames me for all of that. I already know what she thinks of us as parents, and really if she weren't doing me the TREMENDOUS favor of taking care of my kids instead of leaving them in foster care, then I would probably be very angry. However, as things are, I guess I'll just bugger off.
Also, none of the holiday festivities included any liquor of any kind. Isn't that a rotten way to celebrate the season? I'll have to change all of that, come New Year's day.
