They used to spend all summer driving each other up the wall and causing their mother to ‘suggest’ they play outside when things got too rough or loud. Kristina protected Autumn from the bullies that found the young, hyper girl annoying. Autumn made Kristina loosen up; even managed to get her to go on adventures with her when usually she wouldn’t. During thunderstorms they would huddle beneath the blankets together with a flashlight in hand and stuffed animals held close.
When their mother died Kristina promised Autumn she’d never leave her. She promised to always protect and be there for her no matter what happened. Kristina cared for Autumn, making sure she had what she needed, and even stepped into the role of a father when it came to questioning boyfriends. This, of course, irritated Autumn to no end. She could take care of herself, but Kristina seemed to ignore that fact.
A few years after their mother’s death, Autumn fell fatally ill. The doctors did everything possible, but she grew gradually worse as each day passed. In a final attempt to save her life, Kristina pulled up the funds she could and called Doctor Carlisle Cullen. She offered to pay the plane ticket and whatever else so long as he came and helped Autumn. She would do anything. After listening to the pleading sister, Carlisle agreed.
November twenty-first Autumn Jones passed away. Carlisle had not expected Kristina’s reaction, grunting slightly as she rammed him up against the wall. Her pale face twisted in rage and grief. She yelled things he couldn’t remember and continued to do so until she all but lost strength in her body. Had she been able to, she would have hit him when he told her she couldn’t see the body.
Autumn Jones had gone, but Autumn Hale had been born. The road had been long and hard for her until she could, at last, be around people without attacking. She had grown rather attached to Jasper during those hard years and when she had gone to high school for the first time in years, they went hand in hand.
Jasper, at Autumn’s request, had gone with her to her old home town to find out what had become of her sister. He reminded her of the time that had passed and she was only slightly surprised to find a tombstone with her sister’s name etched onto it. It did not stop the pain and grief. Kristina Jones had passed away exactly ten years after Autumn, on November twenty-first.

Thunder crashed overhead as Emmet swung at the ball, taking off immediately after in the hopes he’d reach the base before Edward caught the ball. Autumn was ready, eager to see the ball heading her way so she could call Emmet out. Edward came out of the woods, no ball in hand, but a grave expression etched onto his face. Jasper came to stand by Autumn’s side. The smell of fresh blood was thick in the air, but it was not from an animal.
“We have company,” Alice spoke as she turned towards the group of four. They recognized three of the vampires, having run into them once before briefly. The fourth remained close by James, one of her arms slipping around his waist. As Laurent explained their mere passing through, Autumn caught the gaze of the unknown vampire. She gripped Jasper’s hand tightly, whispering urgently into his ear.
She remembered a long forgotten promise. One that had been spoken beneath a table fort while dressed in black clothing with tears running down their faces. It seemed now; however, that promise would be hard to keep.
Autumn was with the Cullen’s, in love with Jasper, and she held the same beliefs they did. Kristina was with them, with James; those who were the complete opposite of the Cullen’s.
