Upon reaching the haven, Ximly was off of Calon in a flash and sprinting towards the three story house a few hundred feet away from the a much larger, longer building. She got to the large, solid wood, stained oak door and didn’t even mess with the locks. There was a loud thud, and a horrible cracking as the woman kicked the door open, the splinters from the wood flying into the hall. “BRIAN?” Ximly bellowed, dashing into the house.
The boy popped his head out from around a corner with wide eyes, “Mum??” He came into the hall quickly, finding himself trapped by a tight, suffocating hug from his mother. “Air!!”
Ximly let the boy go, but still held him by his shoulders. “Who came to the house, Brian? Who came to the Haven?”
Brian shrugged, not quite understanding his mother’s worry. “Tom came by a few minutes after you left… he stayed a while talking with Tana over a few things, and then went to talk to the Professor before coming back and telling me to remind you that it was an off day…. At about that time it was eleven and I had finished my stuff, then Corel came in a few moments later and said that he was off to the Market, so I told him t-“
“Yes, I know, I ran into him as well….” Ximly said quickly, cutting her adopted son off, “Who else?”
Brian shrugged. “I don’t know…”
Ximly let out a sigh, “Anything Brian, does anyone know who else came here?
“Um… Tana might…”
“Did you see anything while out with Myther?? Anything?”
“Oh yeah!” Brian’s face lit up as he chimed. “We got a new truck!”
“Did they see any creature? Anyone?” Ximly asked, looking her son in the eye with a worried look.
Brian paled, “Myther and I circled for a while… why?”
Ximly shook her head, “Come on, pack a bag, quickly.”
A sinking feeling fell to Brian’s gut as his systems flushed the heat from his body. Ximly started to drag him through the living room towards the other side of the house. “What’s going on, Mom?”
She stopped and looked at Brian with a worried, concerned, saddened, yet hard face, and her tone was to match. “Brian, at the market today, there was no market, instead there were four men, one of which I used to work for when I was still directly apart of Post. These men knew that I was coming to the market that day, and they got to the truck before Calon and I did, which was about a thirty minute ride, and they were on foot. They knew about the haven…… and they said that they had left a new truck here for us….”
Brian was white, and he began to shake slightly. The news was horrifying. “Were they Poachers?”
“I don’t know Brian, but the man I worked for told me to stop something, to fix a mess…. Something’s going on, and it isn’t good.” Ximly said quietly, “Pack a bag, take only one pair of clothes and what you absolutely need to live. That means toothbrush, tooth paste, a towel, your journal, a few pens and a pencil.”
Brian gave a quick nod and bolted down the hall, the little green dragon named Orien watching Ximly with a worried look from the boy’s back pocket in his pants. Ximly let out a shaky sigh as she moved her bangs out of her face, her normally crystal clear blue eyes clouded with mixed emotions and worry. The Haven was a secret location, guarded by the strongest spells that the Ministry of Magic could provide, not to mention it was located on the other side of Tarron, and In the middle of the thick woods around it…. Their biggest fear had always been poachers… but now…. What was Birkley doing with the likes of them? If they even were poachers…. It could be worse… they could’ve been a part of the Black Society… the faction of Dracologists who used their knowledge to harm, not to good…. But even then, the questioned remained, what was Birkley doing with them?
