Calyxi's Diary
:] Life's a b***h
Okay, I created a Gaia Journal just for this one post. -__- Yay me.

So, I stumbled upon this gem when I was searching a few blogs and, well, let me know what you think. Make sure to watch it for about a minute as the top subject changes. What do you think is wrong about what is said, or, what do you take personal offense to.. if anything at all.

I love it when people give "facts" without backing them. Makes me giggle in sheer delight.

They just got all their funding in California to start running the ads against gay marriage (a rebuttal for the one that has been playing for the last month-ish) too. Its going to be a fun next few months.

"Because sex with a man and a woman makes babies, that's why..."
"Who in their right mind would give a kid only half a chance for happiness?"

I actually laughed out loud. Right before I screamed. What bullshit.

a) Not all straight people have kids. And, what about couples who cannot have kids? Does that mean that their relationship is in invalid? Last time I checked marriage was about love and commitment, not simply about continuing the human race.

b) 'Half a chance for happiness?' You should only know how many heterosexual couples abuse their children. I think gay couples would provide a very good, loving environment for said child because when you have to work for something, let's face it - you appreciate it more. Straights can marry and have children and they treat it like it's nothing because it's a privilege that's always been there. What's in the parents pants matter not at all. If they have two loving parents, regardless of gender, what's wrong with that?

I was listening to a program on NPR a few years ago on which a woman involved with one of those supposedly "pro-family" groups (like the one that wrote this ad) was explaining why gay couples should not be allowed to adopt children.

During the program, an 18-year-old girl called in to talk to the woman. She told the woman that she had been a foster child her entire life and now, at 18, has absolutely no family and nobody to support her. She is on her own.

She implored the woman to give up on this ridiculous campaign because there weren't enough father/mother couples to adopt all the children who need homes, and that she dreamed of being adopted by two moms or two dads. She really hit home about the importance of family and how family doesn't have to mean a mom and a dad. It was heart-wrenching and touching.

Of course, the douche-bag woman just sputtered and said: "Well, we want a mom and a dad for all kids and don't think that allowing gays to adopt would really help anything in the long run." But it was obvious, a pair of gay parents could have made all the difference in the world to this girl. It was an epic fail for the "family-oriented" homophobe.

"They're entitled to be however ignorant and presumptuous they want."

I agree, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But also think what an up raw there would be if a LGBT group produced an advert condemning heterosexual marriage?

It would have just as little basis in fact (and I of course don't have anything against heterosexual marriage) but I somehow don't think that the groups producing this rubbish would have any considerations for my right to be ignorant.

This is just so damn sad. I seriously thought that was sarcasm at first, but....just...wow. I plan on marrying the woman I love, meaning those vows, and doing everything I can to keep us together peacefully. I won't be getting married because I'm knocked up. I won't be getting married because I'm bored or feeling spontaneous. I'll be getting married because I've found someone I want to spend my life with and have a family with. Yet somehow...I'M the disgrace to marriage.....way to go, ultra conservatives.
