Um...
Things that Kill and RP (Updated January/1/09)
So, after hours (well...more like a half hour...) of seaching for a good RP here on gaia, I've given up (for like....fifteen minutes) to write a journal entry. I was planning on putting a cute little quote about this in my sig, but I honestly couldn't come up with anything that didn't make me sound like a homophobe. (Lol. I first said "homophone". WTF?)

Anyway. I've noticed that, while Barton Town has finally managed to muscle it's way though the latest noob wave, the place is filled with RPs that, in my opinion, suck. For one reason or another. I've decided that I'd express my dislike for several things that kill an RP either instantly, or over time for me.

Yaoi/Yuri
Now, before I go on, I'd like to state that homosexual characters of any kind included in the story lines of RPs do not bother me, insult me, or make me angry. Infact, I pretty much adore some yaoi couples. (I still can't find a good Riku or Sora to play with, damnit. D& wink What really bugs me is this. Yaoi/Yuri centered RPs that pretty much serve no purpose other than a corn dog-fest mixed with a little (unoriginal) angels vs. demon/vampires vs. werewolves bullcrap. Yaoi/Yuri can make for some good characters. Angels Vs. Demons/Vampire vs. Werewolves RPs can be cool. But honestly. Come up with something that does not center around "Not only is this an idiotic sex fest! But it's full of nothing but Yaoi! Yay!" Incase a lot of you realize, there are some RPs out there who might have been interested in your RP, did they not feel that their characters (usually straight in this situation) would be neglected while all the boys play pin the tale on the donkey.

Role Work
I've been in one or two of these in the past few months. This is one of those "over time" problems for me. I brouse through Barton Town and HO AND BEHOLD! Something that looks interesting. I walk (not literally, of course) in and check everything out. Well golly-jee. This looks good enough to join. Now, here's a really big flag that should tell you to step away from the key board. You should not be stressed while making a profile/post. If you do find yourself desprate to make an amazing post, instead of just simple wanting to, then step away. Heaven forbid you actually get accepted into this role work. Not only do you have to continue in a game that you probably are no longer enjoying, but each and everyone is stressful and slightly less fun than the last (and that's saying something).

The Same Old s**t
Seriously. How many Death Note, Naruto, and FFVII RPs can anyone come up with until finally they realize that there are already twenty different RPs with their exact same plot.
Example.

Warning: Caps-o-doom

"HOMG! LYKE, AERIS IS ALIVE AGAIN...AND....UM....SEPIROTH WAS BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE BY THE THREE BROTHERS....WHO ARE MAGICALLY ALIVE AGAIN....FOR SOME ODD REASON THAT I CAN'T THINK OF. YAY ME! I'M AWESOME! I GET TO PLAY CLOUD!"
Seriously. If you want to play as Cloud so badly, at least come up with an original plot that we already haven't played through five times in the last year, so that way we'll have fun playing as Aeris or Tifa or Barret or whoever. The plot needs to be good and full of awesomness for everyone. Not just some quicky thing you put together to entertain yourself for five minutes.

Self Inserts
I could seriously impale any little fangirl who makes an RP soley so she could make an original girlfriend/sister/mother/b***h for their favorite character. Seriously. It just makes me want to hurt things.

Insane Graphics
Sorry. I know you guys all work on them very hard. And they are very pretty. But it's my honest opinion that, if you have enough time to work on HTML for three words that take up five entire pages, let alone the rest of the thread, you should seriously take a chill pill, work on your RP harder (pretty graphics don't make the RP), or enjoy playing with photoshop some more(See. There are exceptions to every rule). When ever I see a blinding logo sitting over two whole sentences of text (unless it's a general "Hey Guys" type thing), I loose interest imediately.

Over-dramatic Intros ect.
Have you guys ever started to read a book that your friends told you about? They make it sound sooooo good that you just can't wait to read it. Or maybe you found it on your own and the cover was just really pretty (a.k.a. title or first post)? Then you start to read it and hoshit. This stuff is exhausting. It's really literate and fun and such. But it just looses and interesting stuff with every word that it needlessly adds to every sentence? Yeah. Don't do that.
It's like a video game with a really boring intro (or first two hours of game play). You just don't really wanna play that anymore, now do you?

Semi-literate
I have such little respect for anyone who proudly parades around Barton Town screaming "semi-literate". I don't mean that you shouldn't be proud that you've finally learned how to spell "cat" and have moved up from your noob-station. What I mean is you can spell, or you can't spell. You can form coherent sentences, or you can't. There really is no inbetween. Someone who types only well enough to kinda-sorta put together five sentences that are mostly readable shouldn't earn themselves a new subcatagory of illiterate. Everyone makes mistakes, yes. But don't put yourself on any higher a horse than you deserve. To even it out a little bit, and this can go with the above rule, as well, anything past advanced shouldn't be RPed. It should be put in a ******** novel.

Private
For the love of god. Take it to PMs, then. *I know. It's really none of my business to be bothered by these. But they still ******** annoy me. So deal with it.

Rules
This is more a section for the GMs/OPs/whatever they're called these days. If you're going to start an RP, obviously you need rules. If you're going to have rules, obviously, the members of the RP need to FOLLOW THEM. I've just recently found an RP where they have a very promising set of rules that doesn't restrict too much on the side of creativity, but also is strict enough so that idiots shouldn't be allowed into the RP very easily. Indeed, it was very promising. But you know what? The OPs were lazy. They made the rules, but did not enforce them. So now, there are a whole bunch of idiots running rampant in the RP and they're not really doing anything about it. (This is when I start to make devious plans on how to get rid of unneeded idiots. Not really my place. But oh well. I'm a b***h like that.) When the GM hands control over to idiot players who are pretty much useless idiots, the entire RP will fail. Trust me. I've watched it happen many times.

And also, rules should never be too strict. I honestly think it's rediculous to restrict sexuality, race (as in color of skin, not elves and all that cliche bull crap), ect. I will admit that sometimes it's needed (for example, an Battle Royale RP I'm in now pretty much restricts race to Japanese, or at least asian. This is acceptable, seeing as how it goes with the plot), but other's, it's not. Just because you personally have a problem with black people/asian people/ or even something as simple as scene kids (not a race. I know. I'm not just sticking to race. Keep your minds open with me people. It's easier to follow that way.) doesn't mean you should acy like they don't exist and not accept a character simply because you don't like thier "label".

Randomness
I'm not saying random in an RP isn't awesome. I've found through experience it's pretty kick a** if used right. But that's not really the topic I'm talking about. I used the word "Randomness" for lack of a better word.

When you and another character are conversing, please, for the love of god, don't decide that your character is bored and have them randomly walk away in the middle of a conversation. It makes the other member's feel as helpless and worth nothing in the story line. One person can single handedly kill an entire RP on their own with this tactic if their character is major enough. Seriously. It's annoying, and noobish.

Vampires
THEY DON'T ******** SPARKLE. DDD<

Deception/Trickery/ect.
Everyone knows that a wise RP starter will sometimes ask you to supply a password (or something of the like) so they know you read the rules. This is a good way to weed out the people who don't read all of the thread before entering, lazy people, ect. It's a very good thing to do. But sometimes, people get a little too carried away with it. When you have twenty seven and a half things that you'd like a person to do to prove that they read your thread, it's going way too far. Also, don't try to be so sneaky that even those who have read your thread (all of it, from the first letter of the first sentence to the last period of the last sentence) might not catch it. Srsly. It's annoying.
And, if you do one of those things, don't reply to someone who missed something in a rude manner. To those who honestly tried their best to do what you asked, it looks like a small mistake that can be easily fixed. Thus, you make yourself look like a total a**, and said person would probably no longer want to be apart of your role play. (Especially if said RP is subpar at best and really doesn't seem worth dealing with a "picky/perfectionist" OP.)

Location, Location, ********]
Random white people don't walk around in fudal japan for no reason. An alien isn't going to be walking around in a modern non-scifi based RP. You're not going to have modern appliances in the dark ages. (Seriously. This is the most ANNOYING for me. It kinda makes me want to stab people when the ******** this up.)

More probably coming soon.
