no name, Ch 6
Then came Wednesday. Time to save those poor kids. They got word that there were twenty of them, so she took five of her League troops- Dimitri, Ricky, Trent, Joey, and Aaron. She told them that they hoped to catch the train before it got to the castle, but if not, they would each take charge of four children and no matter what, get them as far from the British as possible and to their foster parents and that if the child had no biological parents to speak of, their foster parents can adopt them. That was the plan.

All suited up and ready to go, they headed out. But something was going to go wrong. Casey, for the first time in years felt like this was a bad idea. She shook the feeling aside, but the first thing to go wrong was, the train. It was coming a half hour ahead of schedule! Casey dropped to the ground- if the conductor saw them standing in the field the tracks ran through, they were busted. Once they knew the drivers couldn’t see them, they stood and bolted for the train.

They almost made it- but the train rumbled past them, they missed it by just feet. Watching it pull into the castle station, they knew what they needed to do- wait a while, till dark, then go in and save those kids!

Hemmer’s men checked each car as they unloaded the kids into the dungeon- four to a cell. Hemmer nodded at his work. They’d be coming, and he knew it. The children spoke of a group of masked people that would save them. They all waited for their targets/heros to come.

Once darkness fell, they covered their faces and headed off. They scaled up to a bridge and across to the prison. Dropping themselves down to the Prison hall, they heard children. Casey gave them each a key, and told them to get the kids out of here. Joey got his first, they hugged him as they left quietly. Aaron was next, and he got the same affection. All went well till Ricky and Casey started out. The door swung open at the end of the hallway. Casey turned to face Ricky.

“Get the kids out now. Go.” She said prodding him out “I will follow you, I promise.”

They got as far as the tree by the low balcony. Ricky and the kids were up, and Casey started her climb. A dart came and hit her in the arm. Ricky had her hand, but she began to lose control of her muscles. Like they stopped working. The guards were at the door. Casey saw the terrified look on the little girl clinging to Ricky’s back.

“Get them out of here. Leave now. They are more important.” She said, Ricky still hanging onto her left hand. She used the rest of her strength to pull her hand from his, and she fell to the ground in front of the guards. Whatever poison they used in the dart left her unable to move, so she could not protest as they bound her hands and feet and pull her into the dungeon.

Ricky watched from his place in the tree. He knew that if he acted rashly, her sacrifice would have meant nothing. A pang of guilt struck him as the doors closed behind Casey and her captors. But, he had to obey her.

He took the children back to the colony. Everyone cheered at their victory. Casey’s father came and patted him on the back.

“Well done, saving those kids, boys, very well done. We will track down parents for them, don’t worry. By the way, where is my daughter?” He asked. The smile faded from his face when Ricky remained silent.
