Here I stand before you, a man, willing to learn, to listen, to comprehend.
But do you see a man? No.
You see the image of a person society has forced you to see. You only view the outer appearances, and perceive an immediate personality from that, without even knowing the man's name.
Such incidents are common when one is first introduced to another.
The unfortunate part of this, is when one does not attempt to move past that false immediate personality.
Do they try to see the man? No.
They treat the man as they believe the man should be treated, based on that false personality formed at initial judgment.
Here comes the stupid part of this entry:
Apply what you have just read, to what gaia has been attempting with the new landing page. Think of the site as a person.
When a potential gaian first views the site, the landing page is the first thing they see.
It gives them a glimpse of what gaia is really about, but only a glimpse. This is the outer appearance of the person.
Based on this initial glimpse, the potential gaian will perceive an immediate personality of the site (person), that may or may not be true, depending on what is shown to them.
Based on what I have experienced in the past, I can assume that many new members will not move past the immediate personality they perceive when they first view the site. Because of this: If gaia choses to present the initial personality of a site like, say, myspace, the new members will continue to treat the site as if it were indeed myspace.
Think about it.
(and for crying out loud, get that stupid screaming girl off the front page!)
