Deadly Sanctuary: Enter the Mind of a Madman
Journal #39: A short story to pass the time (True Story)
Confession

It all began when I started high school; maybe an all guy facility wasn’t the best of my choices. Anyways, going to a school with just guys, you’re bound to have a place full of sinners; what with all the fighting and junk. So, as a long-lasting tradition, our school organizes an event where a priest, or other members of the clergy, come to the school as we students go for a confessional. A day or so before we confess our ‘sins,’ we’re all given a list of possible things to have absolved; If they’re going to give us a list, they might as well absolve us for everything so we don’t have to go through the giant hassle.

The day before I was scheduled for my appointment with the priest, I honestly had nothing to confess; well, nothing big anyways. Sure, I had swore like a sailor at times, but I’m only human. I had gone around the school, asking my friends what they were probably going to say. One person said that were going to admit to doing drugs; someone else said drinking. Other interesting sins I heard of, are just too horrible to repeat. Some of the common stuff that I could relate to, was disrespecting my friends and family, bullying some other students, and even lying. A bunch of guys at the school, were planning to mess with the priest, and tell him that they were gay: if that won’t surprise the guy, I don’t know what will.

After asking everyone what they were going to confess, I had found myself at the door to the school chapel. I thought to myself, what was I to do now? What should I say? I felt so confused, all I could think about, was what everyone else told me. I couldn’t think of a single thing I did wrong since my last confession, until it hit me.

I walked into the chapel, knelled down on a pew, and began to speak:

“Bless me father, for I have sinned. It has been one year since my last confession, and since then, I have: lied to my parents, stolen money from friends and family, taken drugs and alcohol, beaten up on other students, disrespected my teachers, cheated on my last math test, and I have used the Lord’s name in vein…”

Just as the father was about to give me my penance, I stopped him, and began to speak again.

“Also father, in addition to all those previous sins, I must also add that I am lying to you right now…”
