If you know what a kender is, you will understand. If not, this is going to be a collection of random stuff depending on how I feel, the events of the day, web sites, personal interests, trinkets, collectables and stuff from my pockets :)
Feb/08 Snow Storms
xp Not fun. It's been ok for local kids, they have had a few days off school due to the amount of snow and the C.U.P.E. (Canadian Union of Public Employees) strikers only doing minimal snow removal off the roads. But for the rest of us suckers who have to go to work, it hasn't been pleasant.
I've got a 2002 Kia Rio, a very low riding car. Great for fuel efficiency, but not Canadian winter driving when there is a good foot of snow on the roads. My car is either scraping bottom on the snow piles, or fish tailing. I've been lucky that it hasn't gotten stuck some place. (it would be easy to push out though) Mind you, I've had a couple of close shave situations where by the grace of whatever higher power there is, I wasn't involved in an accident.
There on the 9th, went to visit some friends in poor visibility conditions. Mistake #1. Should have called them up and stayed home. But we went anyway. Because the roads were poorly plowed it was difficult to see the center line, and there were times when myself or other vehicles partially crossed into the opposit lane. Mistake #2. In my attempt to accomodate one vehicle coming from the opposite direction I hit the gravel, I attempted to get back on pavement, over compensated and began fish tailing. Mistake #3. Usually, it isn't too hard to get out of that. Take your foot off the gas, watch your steering, and turn into the slide. My problem though was that I was going down hill at the time and my speed was increasing. Hitting the break not a good idea, going into neutral might have been slightly better, but I added pressure to the break. Mistake #4. Didn't take much and I spun (90 degrees). Car ended up resting perpendicular across both lanes, and I watched as the front of my car narrowly missed striking another car. So glad the Rio is a small car. But man that scared me. And I'm so glad no one got hurt.
