The Obliviot.

This is what my dad has affectionately ( stressed yeah, right) termed one of our neighbors.

The neighbor in question lives on the other side of our backyard. The only other living thing in his house (around his house, I should say) is a white sheepdog named Spectre.

Spectre likes to talk. And when I say talk, I mean bark repeatedly at everything that does or doesn't move.

Our neighbor says that Spectre only barks when she has a reason, and that she's great for neighborhood security.

Spectre barks at everything. She barks when there's an animal in the backyard. She barks when there's not an animal in the backyard. She barks when it's sunny outside, she barks when it's rainy. She barks when a plane is flying overhead, and when there isn't one to be seen. She barks at squirrels and cats and trucks and sirens and birds within a quarter-mile radius of our house.

She is not great for neighborhood security. No one cares why she's barking anymore, they just know that she's barking again.

That, and our neighborhood is already pretty much crook-free. And (this will have all you Animal Rights people hissing and spitting) Spectre is on a very short rope attached to a tree, so not only does she have no room to move, but any potential thieves can easily get around her, anyway.

Our neighbor says that she doesn't bark much at all.

But I can't help but notice that she's tied up at the opposite end of the house from his bedroom and living room, in the small part of the yard right outside my bedroom/homework area/art room. And, reality check, she only barks all the freakin' time.

AND (another one for you Animal Rights people) our neighbor doesn't keep her for companionship. He doesn't even let her in the house. She's a purebred whatever she is, and he's keeping her to breed. That's it. No other reason.

Everyone despises my neighbor. The Obliviot.

WORD TO THE WISE: If you get a dog, get it because you want a friend/companion/friend for a dog you already have, NOT A PUPPY FARM!!!! And for your neighbors' sakes (if not your own when they wise up and break out the torches and pitchforks), TEACH YOUR DOG SOME MANNERS!!!
