chapter 1

Looking back at the house where I had spent the past 14 years of my life I can't say that I felt much remorse for leaving. After all I had to reason to stay in this place any longer. With my belongings on my back I mounted my bike and headed towards the train tracks. It was 4:30, the sun was just rising and the train would be coming soon. If I was lucky enough I could hitch a ride on it to where ever it was I was going.

In all my years I had seen and experienced things many people my age and much older haven't. I suppose that that contributes to my difficulty getting close to people because I'm afraid of what might happen to them or to us. I had lost my best friend in a car accident, a mother in a convenient story hold up when she was caught in the cross fire, and I had lost Rebecca my girlfriend when her own father killed her.
In my room I had left a suicide note because in a sense this was suicide, I had taken my fathers gun and one magazine of ammunition with me to make it look like I had taken my own life. I didn't want any one to know what I was doing so I hadn't told anyone and hadn't let on to any one about these plans of mine. I admit it took some time to gather the right things for this trip but it will probably be worth it in the end.

And so... on this day, this Wednesday morning, this October 17th, in honor of my Rebecca I set out on a journey that I would hope not to return from. With our engagement rings on my hand I gripped the handle of my bike and pulled out of the drive way making my way around my dad's old car with the missing window, rusted paint, and rotting interior. Down the street past the "For Sale" signs in front of the McClain residence where my best friend used to live.

Making it to the train tracks I could hear the train's low pitched whistle as it rounded the bend to come into view. The blinding light hit me straight in the face and my eyes started to hurt from the change in brightness. I picked up my bike and was going to see if I could manage to bring it with me on the train, as if trying to get on a moving train wasn't hard enough... the train screeched past me and I let a couple seconds go by so that the open crates were going by and I jumped up to try and get into the train on a stroke of luck. With the added weight I couldn't jump quite as high and I didn't think to compensate. My ankles caught on the bottom of the platform and I ended up falling on my chest, not good. Because of the momentum of the train I ended up sliding to the back of the crate and hitting my head hard on the base of my skull, then my bike and belongings came flying at me and caught me right in the stomach. After that I passed out...
