Here on Long Island we had a number of wealthy families owning large areas of land throughout the roaring 20's and beyond, though the depression really took a toll and a lot of the land was sold off. Now these great Gatsby like estates lie either re-used or abandoned.

The Vanderbilt's had a number of properties here. One is now part of Dowling College and the main building called the Fortunoff bldg is rumored to be haunted. It certainly looks the part inside with hidden hallways and elegant ballrooms. I actually felt someone push me as I was going down the stairs there.

One of his other properties is now the Vanderbilt museum and I receive a lot of stories about hauntings there too.

There is also a tower out in Old Westbury that is supposedly haunted and it connects back to the Vanderbilt's too! Remind me to tell that story sometime!

So....what were these rich families doing that might have attracted spirits to them? Or could it be that they are just old buildings, or is it just a healthy imagination?
