The Hunt
As I walked outside, I looked up and saw the moon. It was a full moon and in the background, I heard wolves howling at it. I had better find a wolf to bite. I walked around the house to the woods. Falq said this was safe. He hasn’t said anything wrong to me yet. I trust him…
Soon, I came upon a small pack of white wolves. I stalked them through the night with a new found stealth. Hmm, this is pretty cool! Stealth…I’ve never been good at it… As I tracked them, one caught my scent and turned around. It looked as though it had fire in its eyes. It howled and growled at me. “Ar-ar-aroo! Ar-ar-aroo,” it barked at me. Strangely enough, I could understand what it was trying to say. “Don’t come any closer! I’ll rip you to shreds!”
“I only want a little bite. That’s all. It won’t even hurt, I promise.” I moved closer to the wolf. The others had backed off. “Please, I’m starving. I haven’t had anything in three days. Absolutely nothing to eat.” I begged him. He only laughed at me.
“Why should I let you, an ungrateful human, bite me? I am the leader of this small pack. You must fight me. If you win, you can bite all you want out of me. But if I win, you have to leave the forest and never come back. Got it,” the wolf said. “And by the way, the name’s Kiba.”
“Kiba? Nice name…Ok, I’ll fight you,” I said. I only agreed because I could bite him while we were fighting. Wait, I thought, I don’t have any weapons! Suddenly, my left side got heavier than it had been. I reached down and felt a sword there. How did that get there?? Oh well, at least I have something to fight with now… I unsheathed the new blade and weighted it in my hands.
“You can start any time, human,” Kiba snarled. “This will only be a few seconds.”
“Sure, oh, and just so you know, I’m not human. I’m a vampire!” I lunged at him, sword drawn and fangs bared. I went straight for his neck. He dodged with the gracefulness of a ballerina. “Oh, you’re good, but you’ll have to do better!” I screamed at him, slicing through the air at his legs. He dodged that attack too.
“My turn,” Kiba said. He bit at my ankles and clawed at my face. I dodged both attacks using the new found stealth. I got behind him without him knowing.
“Take this,” I said as I bit down on the scruff of his neck. I began to drink from the new wound. “You are now mine. You may keep your freedom, but when I call upon you, you must come. Do you understand, Kiba?”
“Y-y-yes. I do. A vampire has taken my freedom, but yet allows me to roam free. Master, you have yet to tell me your name,” Kiba said, bowing deeply, the best a wolf can that is.
“Tabatha. I’m Tabatha. There is no need for you to call me master, unless you really want to. You can just call me Tabatha if you wish.” I walked over to where he lay, examining his wounds. “Let me heal you. I’m not one hundred percent sure as to how this works, but I’ll give it a try.”
I bent down and spit on the wounds. The instant that the spit hit the open sores, they sizzled and were gone. “There you go! All better. Does it feel any better?”
Kiba stopped licking the wounds long enough for me to do this. “Yes, actually, they do feel better! Master, how is it that you can understand me so well?”
“Kiba, I do not know the answer to that question. I feel the sun is going to rise soon. Come. Escort me back to the house. Falq must be worried about me by now.”
