Cassie's ~Fantastic~ Life!
My "Fantastic" life if you will!
Chapter 2

The next morning was sunny and bright. Last night seemed so distant, so far away. ‘Did it even happen?’ I wondered to myself. The more I thought about it the more unrealistic it all was. It was much, much easier to pretend it all was a dream. At least that way I would have to worry if my parents really would let him stay.

I sat up in my bed. What should I do next? Looking at the clock, I noticed it was 10 A.M. No one had came to wake me up? I got up went to my mother's room. She was still sleeping. I went and looked at the calendar. It was indeed Friday. Why wasn't she up?

Deciding it was time to eat, I went through the cabinet until I found some peanut butter. Grabbing two pieces of bread out of the breadbox I went to fix some toast. My mom walked into the kitchen right when the toast popped up out of the toaster.

"Good Morning, mom." I said pleasantly.

She looked at me strangely and said, "You're up early."

Chuckling, and spreading peanut butter onto my warm toast, I replied "It's ten O'clock, mom."

"It is? I must have slept late." She said, rubbing the sleepies out of her eyes.

"You must have." I chuckled.

Hearing the phone ring in my room, the phone ring from my room. I dashed to go get it. I flipped it open and read the name across the screen. It was Don.

"Hello." I said happily.

"Good morning beautiful." He replied, worry apparent in his voice.

"What are you doin'?"

"Well...I called to see if you had spoken with your parents, yet"

It wasn't a dream and I could no longer put it off. I had to ask my mom and I had to make her say yes.

"Well, not exactly. I am working on finding the right time..."

"Understandable. Yet, I am having huge issues with even looking at my dad." He sighed, shaking his head to himself.

"Yes..." I paused, "What are you going to tell him?"

"I don't know yet." His usual ‘nerves of steel were clearly coming undone, shaky tone showing the apprehension.

"Well...I hope you figure it out soon..."

"Don't worry about that. You just worry about getting the okay from your parents and I will deal with my own."

Taking a quick bite of my toast, I thought to myself before replying "Yes, but my parents will want to know what yours think of the plan!"

"Tell them it was their idea for me to leave..." The sound of their creeky floor flooded the receiver as he paced about his room.

"I dunno..."

"Please... he begged of me, I can't stand it here."

"Fine...,” I replied. Having lost my appetite, the toast was easily set aside. “Look, I gotta go. My mom is up and I can ask her while she is in an okay mood."

"Thank you. I love you."

"Love you too, bye." My heart felt warm, even if my mind was torn. How could this be happening? Everything had seemed so normal before.

"Bye." His own voice sounded hopeful, even if distraught and apprehensive.

I hung up the phone. And went to the kitchen where my mom was fixing her own breakfast. We both sat down together. I waited a few seconds before I broke in.

"Mom..."

"Yes?"

"Don's parents are fighting and--"

"Oh my lord, someone should call the cops or something!!! No telling what the crazy basterd will do next!!"

"Mom, no one is calling the cops.” I replied quickly, wondering what the cops would even think about the ordeal. “That was merely a rumor. The cops never did find any sort of weapon."

"I know..."

"Don really hates being there when they fight..."

"I would imagine so."

"I was wondering...Do you think he could crash in the basement for a while?"

"I will have to talk it over with your dad..."

"I mean the basement is RIGHT next to your room. It isn't like..."

"I know, but you know that it doesn't look right to other people."

"But the circumstances..." I stammered. Sure, it would look add to have a male house guest for an extended period of time, but surely there was a way around it.

"Yes, and would you like to explain that to everyone who wishes to know?"

"Well no..."

"Exactly." She nodded half-heartedly. Her eyes showed true concern, but she knew to be careful. Rumors were one thing, the truth was something else.

"Mom, he is wanting out.’ I paused, quickly considering my options. Gazing deeply inoto her eyes I continued, “In fact, his parents want him out."

"What?" She questioned.

"They said it might be best if he got out."

"Are they fighting with him too?"

I didn't want to keep lying like this but I had no choice. I had to get him out of that mess! I had to do it now.

"I don't know the whole story. I just know things are getting really bad and he wants out."

There, that wasn't a lie at all. Actually, that was the whole truth. Just not adding the part about vampires.

"Let me talk it over with your father..."

"Fine."

I went to my room wondering what my dad is going to say about this. Knowing him his father like crap is going to interfere. He is going to worry about sneaking out and things 'going too far.' Which, for a father I suppose is a general concern. I just wish he would look past that and actually see what I needed him to see! Maybe my mom will think differently. Maybe she has already decided in her head and isn't telling me until she talks to dad, I don't know.

I went to my computer and turned it on and as I watched the screen come on and each icon slowly load I thought about Don. I remembered our very first date, two summers ago. He was so funny, so care free. I never knew he had so much baggage. I hope that getting him away helps with the pressure. Then again, can running away really solve anything? Besides, there is no proof that his dad is a vampire.

As the words dad and vampire crossed my head I realize how insane this really was! Vampires? Come on,
get a friggen clue!! I went to some site called vampirefreaks. I asked them if they thought vampires were real. Several of them said they were a vampire. Finding that interesting, I talked to them about their things. None of them said they ate animals...or should I say ‘drank’. Therefore, one of the stories had to be incorrect. Either Don's dad is not a vampire. Or these are a bunch of kids that have no life and no brain.

Soon I got bored and went into Yahoo and started chatting around with some friends. I finally got bored of that and went to see what my mom was doing. I ended up having to do several chores. Once I was finished them I decided to go for a walk. Maybe that would clear my head.

I sighed. Thinking that perhaps some fresh air might be able to sooth my nerves, I went out into the kitchen where Mom was cleaning up. "Mom, can I go for a walk."

"What for?" She asked, glancing up from the sink.

"Because I want to walk."

She shrugged, "Fine."

Going back into my room, I Grabbing my CD player and put in a CD quickly heading out the door. I stepped outside into the bright sun lit lawn. I could smell the smell of freshly mowed yards. There was a slight breeze, which made it a perfect day. I started to walk around the town, but soon decided to walk behind the house. I would get more thinking done that way. There was no one to bother me but maybe a squirrel.

As I walked I saw a few turkeys and a deer that all scattered away, though. Finding a nice big log I sat down on it and thought about ways to figure this out.

Okay here are the facts I know so far: One, the only wounds on those animals were the two small punctures on the neck. Which could be some form or trap wound? Two, Don's dad did try to bite his mom's neck and she thought he was going to kill her. Maybe it was some form of affection or something. Three, Don is really freaked out yet he has no other proof of his reasoning. That was it, there had to be more proof for my own sanity and if I can prove it all coincidence I am sure it will help Don’s. I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and dialed the familiar number. Never had I dialed it with this much dread and fear. It rang twice.

"Oh thank god what did they say?' He spoke quickly and anxiously.

"Mom is going to talk it over with dad."

"Oh... is that good?"

"I don't know yet..." I paused, "Don?"

"Yes?"

"We need more proof...It is insane to walk around calling your dad a vampire without solid proof. I mean, the uncertainty is making me crazy."

"Yes, I feel the same."

"Good...Now how are we going to do this?"

"Dad goes "trapping" every other weekend. This, I think is the weekend. I will find out."

"How are we going to follow him without him knowing?"

"We can wait in my truck until he leaves. Then we can follow him on foot from there."

"Is it all that smart to follow a vampire into the dark woods?"

There was an awkward silence.

"Probably not..."
