Chapter One: Awakening
It was so dark... so warm... It was like I was floating on air... It felt good... My nose stung a little and my chest felt heavy like there was pressure on it, my legs curled against my chest with my arms floating beside me... What was going on...? How did I get here...? What happened to me...?
...
Now I remember... I was a Hollow ... I'd been a Hollow for as long as I could remember. The only thing else I remembered was a name... Ulquiorra... That's the only thing I could recall besides the constant hunger for souls and power... Ulquiorra... My brother...
But where was I now? What was this place? It was so warm and dark... Something was stinging my nose but it made it so much easier to breathe, even with the weight on my chest and the thing gripping my face... The muffled sounds that I could hear but never make out... But I always seemed aware of someone standing with me, wherever I was...
I finally managed to open my eyes for the first time in what felt like forever... I found myself floating in a large vat of some sort of green liquid with men standing outside looking at me... I couldn't make out anything more than the white clothes and the colors of their hair. One had brown hair, another with silver, and one guy who put his hand on the glass in front of me a lot had black hair. Sometimes there would be another guy walk by with light blue hair. He'd make a few glances then walk past but sometimes, when there wasn't anyone around, he'd stop and stare at me for awhile... The guy with black hair always seemed to be there whenever I opened my eyes. I could see his eyes too sometimes; they were a beautiful green color... His presence was almost comforting, like I knew him from somewhere. He looked so familiar, too...
That name... Ulquiorra... I could picture myself calling him that name... It must be him... He must be my brother... I managed to move my arm enough to put it against the glass in front of me, watching my white hair and the bunch of wires floating around me in the liquid I was floating in. He'd put his hand against the glass where mine was and he'd say something that only came to my ears in low mumbles. But I could read his lips, "Soon, sister... Very soon..."
"Soon" what? What would happen soon? I'd fall asleep again after he said that, feeling too tired to keep my eyes open...
...
A strange beeping woke me up this time. I felt a jolt which made me open my eyes and I felt like I was starting to sink, like the liquid was going down. My heart sped up. What was going on? What was happening? I felt my legs touch something hard under me as I tried to look around. All four of the men I would see were back as well as another whom I didn’t recognize with dark skin. I tried to straighten my legs as I felt the liquid going away and tried to stand but slipped and fell down, trying to keep my head under to keep the warmth of it from going away. I curled in a ball at the bottom of the tank but it wasn't any use. Soon the water was barely over me and I felt the air for the first time in ages. The oxygen mask on my face popped off and I gasped, breathing in a sharp breath and coughing when some of the remaining liquid went down my throat. My body was still a little warm in the container as I looked at my hands, my vision seeming so much clearer without the liquid around me, the cords and wires still sticking inside parts of my body. I managed to bring myself to my knees and put my hands against the glass as I looked out of it with confused eyes. The men were all standing out there but I got a good view of them this time without the liquid to cloud my vision. The man I was coming to know as Ulquiorra seemed to have some sort of a half helmet with a horn on the left side of his head and the other man with the blue hair seemed to have what looked like half a jaw on the right side of his face. I looked at them with confusion about what was happening when the man with the slick, brown hair nodded to the one with dark skin and glasses who nodded in return and reached over to a control panel and pushed a button, all the wires that were in my body shot out. I tensed as they all came out at once and clenched my fists against the glass since it was so unexpected, watching the dark skinned man press another button and the glass I was leaning against came open making me fall forward. Cold air hit me with a blast along with the hard, freezing floor as steam shot out of the open container. I clutched myself and curled into a ball as I shivered, trying to keep my bare body warm but to no use. I laid in a small puddle of the fluids that were still on my body, but they were dripping off gradually.
I sensed footsteps along the ground and something warm was put over me. I looked up and saw Ulquiorra crouched next to me with a face that I could remember always seeing: pale white skin, short black hair with that one tuff in his face, strikingly green eyes, but the green lines beneath his eyes that led to the bottom of his face were new to me. His expression was monotone and I couldn't seem to read it as he put some sort of cover over me before lifting me up into his arms gently, making sure I was wrapped up and covered. He was so much warmer than the ground and I still felt so tired. I clung to his white shirt as he leaned down to my ear and whispered something to me.
Ulquiorra: Welcome home, Kimari...
I managed to look up at him before my eyes became too heavy and I fell asleep in his arms as he carried me off somewhere.
