Uron talks NFL

Hi there folks,
Now that the annual NFL Draft is in the books, I'd like to voice my opinion on the worst team in football history. Yes, I am not talking about the Rams (although you have to admit that they are pretty bad too). I am talking about the loved Loins from Motor City.

Detroit had what? two first round picks in this years draft (#1 and #20) and (IIRC) 5 picks in the first 60 selections. Now despite all my prejudice, I think that the Lions made a huge mistake selecting University of Georgia's Matthew Stafford with the first pick overall. Don't get me wrong, I like Stafford (I am lying, I don't like him, but for the sake of the argument please don't let us digress here), but I don't think that this guy should have been the #1 selection.

I know a lot of folks out will now argue that he has similar talent to Matt Ryan and that he has the tools to make all the throws in the NFL, but I still don't like this guy. I have various reasons for this, but the main argument I'd like to bring forth is experience. And not only experience per se, but experience in a "pro football style offense".

Matt Ryan played 4 years in an offense system that is similar to the foundation of ever pro-football offense (apart from the infamous Wildcat-hubbadubba the Dolphins run). In comparison, Matthew Stafford played only three years in "not very pro-football like" offensive system. With this in mind (and the huge dollar the Lions paid Stafford) I know they will try to get their number 1 pick overall playing time a soon as possible. And this is where it could get iffy.

Sending out an unprepared quarterback to face an NFL defense (even if it's just the Saints defense) is the biggest mistake anyone could make. Stafford will play and make mistakes. A lot mistake. And then he will loose his confidence and start to struggle. And that's when a good idea (taking a QB in the draft) goes bad.

Or does he turn out to be the next Matt Ryan/Peyton Manning?

Therefore, I guess the question that remains is: Will Matthew Stafford be the Next Joey Harrington ("In your face Lions!" wink or the next Matt Ryan? Discuss!
