Hellsing: The Beginning
In the middle of a bloody battlefield, under the rays of the full moon, stood a single man. He wore battle beaten clothes; his pitch black shoulder length hair was matted down with the blood of many men. He wore a wide insane smile, and the look within his glowing red eyes was that of triumph. “Puny humans, you all knew you were digging your own graves when you came to fight me.” He spat coldly; his raspy voice rang out in the silence of the night, shattering the deathly still air of the broken field. The man looked around once more for any survivors and chuckled menacingly seeing none.
The man strode off slowly, uncaringly stepping on the corpses of the fallen as he went. With his hands in the pockets of his long red trench coat he walked steadily away from the one sided war scene. He looked back only once to the fallen before laughing and turning away. He then headed for the one place he called home, London.
As the sun rose over the horizon, the city came alive with energy once again. In a large mansion deep in the outskirts of the city a booming voice rang clear as day through the halls of this home. “Alucard!” A woman shouted calling for her trusted servant. “You called Master Integra?” A low raspy voice crooned as a man stepped through the wall of the shadowy room and up to the woman known as Integra. The woman stared at Alucard, sighing as the vampire silently matched her stare with a fanged smirk spread on his face. “You have an assignment tonight; I assume you already know what it is.”
She walked back to her desk now sorting her papers. The vampire laughed and nodded. “Yes I do. My mission in a simple one. You make my work to easy Integra. All of these half blooded vampires are starting to bore me, but then again they were once human and they are boring as well, so it suits them.” He says his tone low and cold as he spoke, but his expression never changed. The smirk plastered on his face stayed the same. He was trying to hit a nerve with his master, who never seemed to work, but he did get some fun out of pushing the human master’s buttons.
Integra wasn’t fazed by Alucard’s words, but that was to be expected. She had been with the vampire for many years and had grown accustomed to the vampire’s insults to human kind. “Alucard... you should be focusing on the seriousness of this mission. There are many vampires out there that need to be disposed of before the Vatican gets to them first.” She snapped at the vampire, who didn’t seem fazed by the woman’s tone. He simply laughed and nodded, knowing all of this information already.
“Sir. Integra, there is a call waiting for you on line two.” A man with his hair in a pony tail, and brown eyes behind a single monocle that hung on a golden chain, stepped through the open door. He was dressed in feminine butler’s clothing, and stood tall and proper. He was tall and lean, well built for the job of being a butler. “Walter please tells whoever it is that they will just have to wait.” Integra says with a sigh as she focused on her papers. Walter nodded and looked to Alucard. “Oh and Alucard I have something for you for tonight’s mission. If you would come with me I shall show you.” He says walking out the door, the vampire following closely behind.
The two made their way to the basement and down to Alucard’s room. Walter opened the door to the room and walked in. The room was dungeon like, with no windows, a long hall with a large red arm chair, a table and a large coffin for the vampire to sleep in. On the table was a case which Walter had brought in for the vampire. The butler opened the case and pulled out a large black gun. “This is your newest weapon. The Jackal. It is an automatic anti-freak masterpiece. It fires 13 mm armor-piercing, explosive, Mercury-core baptized bullets, with casings of Macedonian silver. It has six rounds per magazine.” He explains as Alucard looks it over with a smile. “I have to say Walter, this is impressive. It will prove me useful.” He put the gun into a holster on his right side, intending to use it for his left hand, and his other gun for the right. The two guns were now hidden by his long red trench coat.
Walter bowed and walked out letting Alucard play with his new ‘toy’ until the sun set. He walked back to Integra’s office to see his mistress looking out of her window in silence. “Sir Integra, the preparations for tonight’s mission have been completed. Is there anything else I can do for you?” He asks, calling her ‘Sir’ as he would to a military leader, standing in front of the large desk that belonged to his mistress. Integra shook her head and turned her chair around sighing lightly. “Walter… what has become of this world? It used to be so bright and now it has fallen into darkness once again. Will it ever return to the light?” She asks looking to the butler for some sort of answer. He man nodded a little before speaking. “I assure you Sir Integra that this world will return to the light, but right now we have to vanquish those who have pulled into darkness.” He says calmly as if he knew what he was talking about, but he had no idea what would happen in the future. The man simply wanted to make everything seem okay.
Night fell on London once again and Alucard started on his mission the second the sun was below the horizon. As he walked through the streets, screams of vampire victims could be heard echoing through the city. He smirked manipulating the shadows to find his target before starting the hunt for the deadly rogue vampire. The rogue itself was very far away, but Alucard, being the powerful pure-blooded vampire he was, easily tracked it down and was now in pursuit of the killer. He came to a large building and inhaled deeply through his nose, catching the scents of many different bloods including his targets.
He entered the building and looked around. It was dark and filled with the heavy scent of blood. Tables, chairs and many other articles of furniture were torn to shreds and now lay destroyed on the floor. Blood was dripping off of them and broken bodies lie among the wreckage. Alucard knew that from his sight that this was where he was going to find his target. He walked around the scene and up the stairs that also dripped with a small stream of blood. He came to a hall where he could clearly see a young girl about the age of fifteen, about 5’1” with blonde hair that went down to her shoulders and glowing red eyes. He saw that her fangs were sunk deep into a human’s neck, and the sound of her draining the blood of the human rang clearly in his ears.
Smirking Alucard called upon his shadows to surround the girl and possibly get her attention. This technique worked, the girl looked up and dropped the dead body to the floor now confused and not knowing what was going on. “Hmm… You noticed my shadows quickly… You’re a smart one.” Alucard says, his sinister tone echoing through the shadows as he emerged from the blackness. “Who are you? What are you doing here?” The girl asks taking a step back as the older vampire approached. “I am the vampire Alucard, of the Hellsing Organization. I have been ordered to exterminate you.” He smirked, the evil insanity showing in his eyes. The girl wasn’t that surprised by this, and obviously had been hunted before. “I must warn you Vampire Alucard, I am very hard to kill.” She shuttered as Alucard’s smile grew wider. “Then this will be more fun than I thought. C’mon and fight me; show me what skills you have.” He taunted the smaller vampiress wanting her to fight back.
The girl sighed and bared her fangs getting into a fighting position. She didn’t really want to fight, but she knew that she had to if she wanted to live. Alucard smirked evilly and called upon his shadows once again, now manipulating them into a shadowy flame. The young vampiress didn’t seem fazed by the black flame licking her body, she instead summoned her own powers, flames erupting from her hands. “Ah, so you have powers of your own I see. This should be interesting, may I have your name?” He asks as his shadows seemed to recede. The girl blanched and looked to the vampire in confusion. “I am Sonia...” She says still staying very alert for any attack Alucard might strike upon her. The older vampire sneered and stepped forward, the shadows moving violently around him as he moved. ”I see.... So Sonia, you are a pure blood obviously by your show of powers... I do not wish to kill something as rare as you are so I shall make you a deal. If you surrender now and come with me to the Hellsing Organization I will let you live. If you don’t, then you will see my true power and most likely die a very slow and painful death. What is your choice?” He asks, his red eyes watching he r every move as she thought. “I will go with you.” She finally said as she submitted to whom she now knew to be her master.
Alucard smiled and let the shadows recede completely before starting to walk off. “We are going, my job is done here.” He says as he sauntered off. Sonia nodded silently and started to follow slowly behind him. She looked quite sad as she walked, her head was hung low and her blonde hair hung over innocent childish red eyes. It was true, she was just a child, but she was a killer and that all showed by the damage she did in the building the vampires were exiting. As Alucard stepped out of the front door he turned to Sonia and sighed now looking her small bloody form over. “You will need to get cleaned up before going to see Integra...” He muttered as he once again started to walk off.
Sonia nodded knowing this already and continued to simply follow him. Who was this Integra Alucard had mentioned? Was it one who was more powerful than he was? Was that possible? All of these thoughts and more ran through her head as she stumbled along behind the elder vampire.
It wasn’t long until they got to the mansion and heard the voice of Integra herself yelling at something from her room. Alucard laughed and walked in, motioning for Sonia to follow. The vampires entered together, one after the other; Alucard being in the lead as he walked into the mansion. He led her through the halls and to a large wooden door with many odd designs carved into it. “Walter, I have something for you to take care of.” He called as he grabbed Sonia and pulled her roughly towards the door. The butler opened the door and looked to the young vampiress, then to Alucard. “Is she the ‘thing’ you wanted me to take care of?” He asks stepping out of the room. The vampire nodded and handed the girl over to Walter, who sighed and looked her over. “I shall show you to your room, then we shall see about cleaning you up and getting you some new clothes.” He says as he started to walk off expecting the vampiress to follow.
Walter led Sonia down to the basement and into a small room. It was much like Alucard’s, dungeon like with no windows, a small table in the middle of the room and a small bed with silk red covers and large pillows set up on the front of the bed. “This is your room, shall I have a coffin prepared for you or is the bed fine?” He asks looking to the small girl, who seemed to be happy with her room. “The bed is fine…” She muttered shyly. The small vampiress never had a home until now and was amazed by the fact that she was brought to a large mansion such as this one. She never thought that one would be so kind as to give her a roof over her head, that wasn’t falling on her head as she slept. She now had a bed as well; she never had a bed, only the ground to sleep on.
Walter let the girl explore her new living space, waiting patiently for her to finish. He got the clue that she was done when she looked at him and nodded motioning for her to come to him. “I would advise you to wash that blood from your body. The bathroom is down the hall. I shall find you some new clothes and set them on the bed for you.” He says, bowing and walking out leaving Sonia in her room. The vampiress sighed a bit and walked out to the bathroom to wash up. After about an hour of relaxing in a hot bath, Sonia emerged from the bathroom, a soft dark blue towel with I.W.H embroidered on the corner, wrapped around her body. She went back to her room to find some clothes on her bed and a note.
Here is a Hellsing Organization uniform for you.
Alucard said that you would be needing this.
I hope it is the right size, it is the smallest we have.
Please tell me if you have any concerns.
-Walter
Sonia nodded, put the note down and started to dress. She tried on the shirt first, it was a forest green, high collared army-issue button up. On the left sleeve was a patch with the Hellsing insignia on it. It was a little tight, but a perfect fit for her small body. She then tried on the skirt, it was the same color and was a little above her knees. The socks were next, they covered her ankles, but didn’t go much higher than that. The boots were last and they were heavy army-issue steel toed boots. She walked around in them, making sure she could get used to the boots before walking out silently, looking for either Alucard or Walter to show her around the large mansion.
Meanwhile, Alucard was in Integra’s office listening to his new orders. “I want you to train our newest member and see what weapons she can handle. Test her with her powers, and with what guns and other weapons we already have. Push her to her limits.” She demanded, obviously knowing about the vampiress Alucard had brought home. The vampire himself was standing silently, grinning as he listened to his master. He knew he was going to have fun with this new little vampire. He would do exactly what his master told him to, oh limits, they were fun to push, and he was going to push Sonia to exhaustion, maybe even until she collapsed. He knew he was dismissed when Integra said no more and walked out, smirking as he saw said small vampire roaming around.
“What are you doing Sonia?” He asks, his rasping voice echoing through the empty rooms. This scared her a bit and she stopped walking only to see that Alucard was right in front of her. “I… I was just exploring…” She says quietly attempting to take a step back, but only to be caught in the elder vampire’s shadows. Training had begun, and it was only a matter of time until she was worked to exhaustion by her master. She stood still facing her master, the look in her eyes screaming ‘let me go or I will fight’. Seeing this, Alucard laughed and shifted the shadows making them slowly start to crawl up her body. “Let’s see if you can get out of this before we start your real training.” He crooned smirking all the while.
Sonia looked to the shadows, analyzing the situation before acting. He’s making the shadows into a solid I can feel it. I need to break them somehow, but I need to find a weakness first… She thought watching the shadows slowly creeping up her legs. As she watched the shadows she noticed that in order for them to move they have to go out of their solid form. She now knew what to do, but she needed the correct timing to get out of Alucard’s grasp.
Alucard watched her with interest, not even bothering to enter her head to see what she was thinking. He knew that by the concentration in her eyes that she was really thinking of how to escape from his hold. He was surprised to see that she was gradually moving out of the shadows. “Hmm… you seem to have figured out my tricks, you are a smart one Sonia.” He says continuing to watch her move from his shadows. She is very intelligent for someone that was on the streets. Her powers are great, but where did she learn to use them so affectively? He thought, actually losing focus on his shadows and making it easier for Sonia to escape.
The small vampiress smirked and disappeared from sight in a blur, using inhuman speed to escape from the shadows. She reappeared behind her master and held his Jackal to his back. “I win Alucard.” She says triumphantly, a smile on her childish face. He turned around and laughed taking the gun from the girl and put it back into the holster she had stolen it from. “ You merely took your chances when I lost concentration. It will never happen again.” He turned away and started for the door. “C’mon, your official training will start now.”
Many nights passed and Sonia’s training got harder. Every night Alucard pushed her to exhaustion and had to carry her back to her room after collapsing from being pushed too hard. On the night of the full moon the elder vampire entered the small vampiress’ room. “Get up.” He demanded pushing her from her bed to awaken her. Sonia opened her eyes and looked up to Alucard, her red hues no longer having the glow in them that they used to. The elder vampire stared down at her with a very serious look on his face, the one he always had when he came to train her. Sighing she staggered to her feet, but only to fall to the floor a second later.
“What’s wrong? On your feet Sonia.” He ordered sternly, kicking her with his black boots in attempt to get her to move. She tried to stand once again only to fall for the second time. Alucard scoffed and picked the girl up, planting her on her feet and holding her there so she wouldn’t tumble again. He stared into her eyes, now probing her mind for any unspoken answers to what was making her so weak. He bared fangs in annoyance as he found the problem and walked out, leaving Sonia to drag herself to her bed.
Moments later voices were heard, along with the footsteps of more than one person. “You took it too far Alucard… You must remember that she is still just a child.” Integra’s voice echoed into the room clearly. “She is strong, the child could handle more than I have put her through. Don’t forget that when I found her she had already destroyed three buildings, killed off five large rich families, burned many more homes to the ground and slain many of the vampires we were to hunt down already. She is made to kill, Integra and she is strong enough to withstand my power.” Alucard rasped, his tone sounding very annoyed from what Sonia could hear.
They entered the room, the stillness returning to the quarters. The small vampire was now resting in her bed; exhaustion had finally taken its toll on her. Integra sighed and looked to her vampire servant. “Let her rest… Tomorrow her training shall start again.” She glanced back to the vampiress before setting her gaze upon Walter. “Get her something to eat when she wakes up.” She says, walking out and going back to her office.
Later that night, Sonia awoke and looked around groggily. She could see a bottle of blood and a glass on the table next to the bed, and got up, picking up the note on the table. She read it and nodded before taking the bottle and drinking the blood within it before stretching and standing. "Well it seems it didn't take you long to awaken Sonia."
