Rauka whimpered, he had been in the basement cage for a week. All this time with only one bowl of water. The man has beaten him 3 times since the first one. His fur was tattered and no longer glossy. His muzzle was dusty and his ribs were starting to poke out. Rauka coudnt even catch a rat, and there were a lot. The creatures took up to taunting the poor wolf. When the door opened he blinked the spots away that the bright light created. He was used to darkness. The man came down and kicked rauka's cage. He then surprisingly tossed in a steak. It looked like gold to rauka. Without a moments hesitation he devoured it. The big man laughed at him, looking down at the pitiful creature. Then from behind him came out a wolf. It wad the red beauty from before. She sat infront of his cage. She held her head and tail up high. She stared him in the eyes daringly, then blinked once slowly. The man pet and praised her before stumbling like a drunk up the stairs. He left the door cracked for the she-wolf. Rauka licked his chopps missing the food already. He stared at the female before speaking. His voice was slightly deep, but not much. He had the voice of a eager yet courageous leader. His voice held a young innocence. "Is he your master?" "No." Was all she said. Her voice was melodic and carried to his ears like silk. He sagged slightly in relief at the joy. "Who is he then?" I asked, "my human companion." I tilted my head slightly, ears flopping. "Human? You mean the two legs?", "yes." She fired back again. I sighed and rubbed my face with my paw. "Why does he not beat you?", "I am tame." I scrunched up my eyebrows at this. "But don't you miss the wild? Being free with a pack? Your a wolf your not ment for these-these-cages!" She just looked at me like I was crazy. "I never had a pack,my mama and papa got shot. This human is my home now, and he feeds me." With that she turned and left, kicking the door closed behind her.
I missed her soon after. The new silence was deafening, the darkness full of new monsters. My stomach growled with a worse hunger. I whimpered and let my ears and tail droop. Resting my head on my paws I fell back asleep. I swear in the middle of the night I heard her, howling to the moon, it was the most beautiful thing but so...sad. Everyday for the next week the same thing happened. Her and the human came down. I got a stake, and they started to refill my water. Then he left and she stayed. We talked then she left me too. I found out her name was scarlet and she was only two moons older than me. She was brought here as a pup and she hunted with the man. The man was named Matt, short for Mathew. He sold his kills and had a bunch of wolves. He would mostly take amber with him and hunt a deer for dinner or to sell. Sometimes he took a few wolves to hunt a bear or moose. It was snowy and cold here most of the year. Huge mountains were behind the house and forests were around here for miles. Three miles downhill was a huge lake, frozen at this time. Once every month or few months he would take all the wolves out for one big hunt. Having them take down tons of game for money. The wolf who got the best kill got to keep one of the smaller kills and sleep in the cabin instead of outside in the cages. Once a year Matt held a huge hunt with a few other men and all the wolves lead by scarlet nd another wolf (they were life the alpha's in a way) did a huge pack like hunt working together to take down a few of the caribou who migrate to the lake during the summer. They stay there for a week then move on. They hunt every day for that week. I was actually starting to like this place.
