Home-bound today during a day of snow due to the worst migraine I've had yet. My Nystagmus is getting worse due to Reed taking forever in sorting out prescription glasses so I'm made to suffer under artificial light and a computer screen whilst bimble about not realising the damage this is causing.
I've been awake since midnight so I'm cranky, I went to sleep fine but woke up with what I thought was a dehydration headache and so had a drink. But the headache continued through the night with no real sleep until my alarm went off and I realised my head was pounding. To add to that, the left side of my face is hurting so much it's causing muscle problems and my speech is slurred. I've lost vision in my left eye and if it wasn't for touch-typing abilities this entry would read like jumble.
I've been promised my letter for my glasses will arrive tomorrow, so I'm booking an appointment for Saturday to get my glasses ASAP. I know that once I get these my condition will be more manageable but until then being at work, speaking on the phone and typing away whilst using cheap sunglasses as a semi-substitute to reduce the light in my eyes isn't working, and daily migraines is becoming unbearable.
Pathologic nystagmus is a form of involuntary eye movement. It is characterized by alternating smooth pursuit in one direction and saccadic movement in the other direction.
When nystagmus occurs without filling its normal function, it is pathologic (deviating from the healthy or normal condition). Pathological nystagmus is the result of damage to one or more components of the vestibular system, including the semicircular canals, otolith organs, and the vestibulocerebellum.
Pathological nystagmus generally causes a degree of vision impairment, although the severity of such impairment varies widely. Also, many blind people have nystagmus, which is one reason that some wear dark glasses.
Laymen translation - My eyes are constantly moving, even when concentrating on a stationery object. Triggered by getting a job in an office environment after 10 months of unemployment the confusion between me perceiving a stationery object when my eyes are moving results in loss of vision, migraines and photophobia (light sensitivity). No known cure for it, permanent condition as far as I know but bearable with prescription glasses with added "glare reduction" coating or dark lenses.
