on to the stuff-age!

You forget, the "Big 5" have more Weakness to Resistance ratio. Their weakness are also consistent and some are common type uses. Also to note, since Garchomp is concidered Uber, by removing Legendaries it leaves only 4 possible "major hitters" that the opponent can use. Only one of which even bothers me. Since I can only use one, I'd say that leaves and even game.

And you said MY logic was flawed. Total base states arn't everything, you know. stare
Your logic is flawed.

Your logic seems to be: "I don't use a legendary on my team therefore I'll prohibit it from the challenger" which you justify with "well since I don't use one it's fair that you don't use one".

The majority of trios actually have LOWER base stat totals (580 if memory serves) and worse typing.

Metagross has a very nice defensive typing (only 2 weaknesses, boatload of resistances and one immunity) and Salamence/Dragonite both work really well in terms of typing (yes they have a x4 weakness to ice but any half decent player should be able to predict an ice beam coming). Dragon has a ton of resistances and they have immunities.

Salamence, Metagross and Tyranitar all have awesome abilities. Tyranitar also essentially has a BST of ABOVE 600 due to the S.def boost from sandstorm.

In terms of movepool Salamence is ridiculous, it can go either physical or special, has a recovery move and can dragon dance. It also has a pretty huge movepool in terms of typing.

Metagross gets STAB meteor mash and bullet punch, Elec+Ice type coverage, EQ, Stone Edge and STAB Zen Headbutt (that's off the top of my head, I'm sure its got more) and the ability to agility itself into a sweeper.

Dragonite is a watered down version of Salamence (albeit a slightly bulkier version) but it still has decent type coverage, dragon dance, outrage, aqua tail and probably some other stuff. Of the 'big 4' it's the weakest IMO.

Tyranitar has the worst defensive typing of the 3 but it has great offensive capabilities. Crunch/Payback for psychics, Stone edge for flying types and EQ/Brick Break for the steel types that resist its stab. It also gets pursuit for mindgames and constant passive damage thanks to sandstorm (not to mention the s.def boost). Its pros far outway the cons (pretty much the EQ weakness and the x4 fighting weakness)

Additionally it can Dragon Dance, Curse or Rock Polish meaning unless the opponent knows what set you're running it'll be difficult to counter.

Looking at the trios on the other hand:
In general they have pretty lame movepools (articuno and entei stand out but a lot of the trios have worse movepools than the big 4), average typing and subpar abilities.

The bird trio all sport a weakness to stealth rock and stone edge (Moltres and Articuno sport a x4 weakness) and pressure only really works on defensive variants. While those ARE possible they're difficult to pull off and very situational. Movepools on these three are pretty bad as well. Air Slah + Flamethrower/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt for STAB and then you're pretty much grasping at straws.

The Runner trio are alright. Low movepool but Raikou and Suicune can both function effectively with Calm Mind and Substitute. They're about the same as bulky waters like swampert or milotic. Not really a huge threat but useable for sure. Entei just sucks. Pressure works really well on Raikou and Suicune.

The Regis are walls. They're all weak to fighting, ice is a terrible defensive typing and their movepools leave much to be desired. Regirock can be used in a sandstorm team to some merit and regice might be viable as a special attacker but really they're nowhere NEAR as dangerous as Salamence or Tyranitar. They do have a great ability though.

The lake trio has pretty bad typing/ability. Psychic is NOT a great type, especially with the advent of weaville and the huge popularity of dark types. Levitate means they all have an immunity but they have very few resistances compared to the big 4 (fighting, ground and psychic) Mespirit is UU, BL at best. It functions alright but doesn't excel in anything. Uxie is usable but very predictable (Yawn, Stealth rock, U-turn and Reflect/Lightscreen/Psychic). Azelf is the only good one but it IS very good.

I fail to see how the big 5 have a higher "Weakness to Resistance ratio" than a pure psychic type with one immunity, a mono water type and a bunch of flying types (weak to two of the most common offensive types in the game)
