the snow
by: Jenna
It softly whispers “winter” as they sleep
An omen of a child’s day come true
They dream of it as soft glittered white heaps
Lakes silver, lawns turned white, with sky so blue
Snow has floated from the black sky above
A gift of frozen breaths to answer prayers
Season of fireplaces, colds and love
A change in spirit with the strength to care
The sun melts over the horizon with
The children waking and rubbing their eyes
They shake off their dreams, nightmares and myths
And glance out the window with a surprise
The images they dreamt that night before
Are real right now and their spirit lifted
They can’t hold the excitement anymore
Grabbed their hats and out the door they spirited
The air is crisp their breath is visible
The first snow can be irresistible
