I'm tired of being told I like the "wrong" Metallica. What do people seem to consider "wrong"? Let's take a look.
Metallica's so called "best" albums are debatabley Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Everyone is in agreement with this, and I am no exception. Those albums ******** kick a** and take names.
However...
They're not my personal favorites.
For this reason, I've gotten so much s**t it's up to my shoulders by now. Is it so terrible that I prefer to listen to ReLoad or the Black Album than to Ride? Does that make me so bad of a person? Am I a monster for admiring Het's songwriting skills when I can actually understand them, as opposed to them being buried in the sound of everything else? Is it blasphemy to prefer the albums that I grew up on?
I'm seventeen. Metallica's self-titled album came out the year I was born. The first real music I ever listened to was Garage, Inc. (Disc one, mostly.) It came out when I was seven.
Most kids my age, especially most female kids my age, refuse to listen to anything that's been out for longer than five years. You should be glad, given the odds, that I even like this stuff at all. That I like Kill 'Em All and Ride and Justice and all the rest. You should be glad I like anything before St. Anger.
I mean, come on. I like Metallica. I like ALL Metallica. I don't weed my way through and say the first few albums were "real" Metallica and the rest (over half of the entire discography) is somehow lesser. Maybe you so-called "Metallica fans" should wake yourselves up and see yourselves for what you really are: Cliff Burton fanboys.
Yeah, he was awesome. Yeah, he was fantastic. Yeah, it was a shame he died. But face it. He's dead, and Metallica has moved on. Just because their "newer" stuff happens to be different than their three first albums (which happens with any long-running band you come across) doesn't mean it sucks and is "not what Metallica stands for". Actually, it would be pretty much the essence of what Metallica stands for, since those are 8 albums to your three.
In closing, Cliff fanboys, your pathetic ******** elitism is disgracing the honor of Metallica worse than St. Anger did, and pretty much taking "everything Metallica stands for" and shitting on it. Thanks for giving a big ******** to James, Kirk, Lars, Jason, Robert, and yeah, even Cliff.
Way to call yourselves fans, you ******** ignorant bastards.
