Elementals: Chapter 3
Colette

Sunlight streamed through Colette's open blinds, landing on her still sleeping form, making her unconsciously shut her eyes tighter against the invasion. Groaning, she turned away fromt the window and pulled her blanket over her face, wishing for just a few more minutes of rest. After a few moments though, she kicked the cover off her, and sat up, opening her eyes blearily. The house was silent except for her own breathing. Arching her back like a cat's, she stretched, then lightly set her feet on her carpeted floor and shuffled to across the hall towards the bathroom.

After a quick, hot shower, Colette wrapped herself in a towel and went back to her room. She absentmindedly turned on her her radio sitting on the dresser to fill the silence. Randomly picking a pair of denim shorts and a black tank from the depths of the drawers, she dressed, bobbing her head along with the song playing loudly out of the radio. Colette instictively went to put her running shoes on, then realized that she's accidentaly left them over at Zack's. I wonder what he's up to... Sighing, she tied on her ratty, old, blue Converse and grabbed her cell phone. Switching off the radio, she jogged down the stairs and out the door, locking it behind her.

She thought about what had happened the day before as she ran, her feet and an idea leading her to where the landslide had occured. As she reached it, she stopped. The massive mound of boulders was a lot more daunting than she had remembered. Worrying her lip, she reached out towards the earth to see if yesterday's control over it was some kind of fluke. "Nope, still there," she smiled as she connected with it, reveling in how instant the earth answered her call. Alright, let's start out small. She concentrated on one of the smaller-sized rocks, willing it to move. Almost instantaneously, the boulder practically flew across the road towards the cliff edge, where she then flung it out into the abyss. She broke out in a victorious grin at the accomplishment, then heard a sound that was remarkably similar to a tree being struck by lightening in the distance. "I guess Zack's in the meadow," she though out loud, then returned her attention to her main task.

Settling into a more stable stance, Colette held her arms out in front of her, elbows slightly bent, hands fully splayed as she faced the main pile of boulders. After a deep, calming breath, she flung her arms in the direction that she sent the smaller rock. A low rumble ensued as she sent the boulders over the edge, completely clearing the road. She let them fall into the valley below, the resouding crash of their landing drowing out her yell of celebration.

Panting slightly from the exhertion of clearing an entire landslide in one sweep, she took a step back, surveying her work. Satisfied, she smiled, then

Zack

Things had grown dark in the meadow, Zack's eyes looking around for a glimpse of the light that had faded in an instant. His eyes narrowed as he moved his body away from the downed trees. Sparks lashed out of his core in a natural defense. It was like a great cloud had cast shadows only in this area, he could see light in the distance. His eyes glanced to the Sun which seemed to be a negative image of its former glory. He clenched his fists and bit down roughly. "Show yourself, Darkness!" An echo playfully called back to him.

"Well you're no fun at all!" She giggled, finally her form appearing from the shadows. At first she was solid black, the darkness slowly unfolded to add details to her. Her face was still shrouded by shadow, even in the better lighting. Long raven locks flowed behind her and below the small of her back. She was built petite, her height just above five foot. She wore tattered clothing that covered her a little less than what casual should be. He could still make out her eyes, they were blue and pierced through her darkness veil with their purple accent. The were the most unsettling aspect about her.

Zack glared at her, his teeth grinding. He could feel how dangerous she was and the ominous intent that she brought with her. "I'll show you fun!" Lightning coursed around his arms as he rushed forward, hands balling into fists. He swung at her several times, each hit missing. The final time he swung he unleashed his lightning to go strike her. There was a loud cracking of thunder, then a small amount of smoke.

Her figure reappeared a few feet away from him. "Oh so sloppy, Lightning. You're not even using your sub-ability correctly. If you keep fighting like that you'll just die," another giggle played at her lips. "Well then, I guess that it's my turn? Dark Extension!" She smiled so sweetly that it was sadistic as shadows wrapped around her arms. She moved her arms ever so slightly and the darkness lashed out in Zack's direction.

The boy was nearly caught off guard as these shadows snapped at him. He lunged backward, narrowly dodging her right arms attack. Both of her darkness trails nailed the ground with a thud, each burrowed deeply into the ground with ease. He was shocked to see the ability for her shadows to pierce it so easily. He wanted to form a counter attack, but there was a pulling at his side. [********, the stitches... He coughed lightly, the pulling had started earlier but he had ignored it. If I do much more I tear one open... He thought just as the shadows regrouped and lashed at him for another attack. He dodged to the right, his retreat steady in hopes to best her at a distance. The far attack nicked his shoulder, taking a decent piece of meat with it. His body fled to the ground unintentionally, his right shoulder slamming lightly.

His breath was heavy as her shadows retracted and she started to walk toward him, was it time to finish it? The distance provided a loud rumbling that shook the earth beneath the both of them. "Seriously?" Darkness sighed, "It looks like we'll have to finish playing another time. It could seem that Earth is on her way here. I don't feel like dealing with the both of you, and your injuries are so annoying. I can't wait until you're healed to see what you can really do! Bye!" She put a flirtatious accent on the last word and blew a kiss to Zack as the shadows embraced her to whisk her away. Soon the dark cloud that seemed to be hanging over the meadow disappeared. Zack was left on the ground, his should making pretty marks on the grass.

He sighed, pulled himself up and gripped his shoulder to see the blood. He made it to his feet in time to see Colette walking into the meadow. He smiled and pretended like everything was okay, hoping she hadn't seen the shadows that had graced this place. "Morning!" He waved his his right hand, attempting to turn his shoulder away from her.

Colette

"Good Morning!" Colette called out to Zack and returned his wave. She was still high off her accomplishment with clearing the landslide, so she was willing to let him slipping past her the day before slide, for now. The tall grass brushed against her legs as she came towards him, waving in the slight breeze. Finally, she stopped directly in front of him and took a look around, surprised to see a few of the trees decimated from his practice earlier. "It looks like you've been busy," She commented, gesturing to where the trees once stood, turned into little more than firewood.
"How long have you been here?" She asked absently, surveying him up and down, then frowned. Something is off... Colette thought instinctively to herself, then noticed how Zack was shielding his shoulder form her. Her frown deepened as she tilted her head, trying to get a better look at what he was trying to hide. Her green eyes widened as she caught sight of the wound, fresh blood dripping from the gash. "What.. What happened..?" She asked, her mind drawing a blank to finding something that could have caused such a wound. She tensed, her head whipping around to survey the clearing, to make sure whatever it was that had caused it was gone. Colette's cold gaze returned to Zack, awaiting an answer.
