The Warrior and The Lover
This is the legend of a Warrior whose name was lost to the annals of history, who fought for a clan and that was long forgotten. Ask any seasoned researcher and they'll deny the existance of such a man and his origins however humble they may be.

It starts with his great deeds, he was well known among his village and he was very kind hearted. They revered him so much that they pleaded as a whole to their Deity to grant him a single wish, their prayers were heard but the Warrior wished for nothing. Not wanting to disrespect the generosity of the gods he struck a deal with them that if he ever truly desired something that he would speak his wish out to them.

Almost a year had passed since the event and he still sent no word to the now frustrated Deity waiting for him to wish for something. He fell in love with a beautiful maiden from his village who, for lack of any name, we shall refer to as the Lover.

Having no love for herself she could not fathom why the Warrior saw favor in her "You don't love me, how could you love me? I was cursed and forsaken" the Lover spoke and denied the Warrior with the belief that she was not pretty enough or a kind enough person. The Warrior knew full well of her curse and saw nothing less in her than the spectrum of all his heart's desire it pained him so much that he could not be with her that he wished for a way to prove his love. A knife was cast down from the heavens before him and he knew what to do, carving into his chest he reached in and pulled out his own heart surviving only with the favor of the gods they now have no debt to pay him.

From his heart he forged a locket that encased a gem which he presented the Lover with the promise that "So long as this locket glows with crimson luster I will love you". She took it and they were happily married until one day the fates have decided they were to take a new path.

Tragedy struck as the clan they were a part of was thrust into war with a great opposing force and the Warrior fell in battle. The Lover mourned his death and wept at his funeral she never felt so alone but still the necklace glimmered, it began to rain and she resolved to head home when from the shadows a cloaked figure emerged and pointed out the locket that held such a brilliant gem. He gave promise that she could see her hero again, in her desperation the Lover agreed and took the hand of the shady character. The Shadow took her deep into the tomb where the Warrior lay, a ritual was performed and the Shadow cast the locket into the open casket where the Warrior lie in peace, a light flashed and the locket grew dim and the Warrior began to rise. Before the Lover could see her hero a brilliant light began to emit from the locket and blinded her.

She awoke back in her own bed as if coming from some strange dream. A sound caught her ear, it was cheerful and there was music and laughter. The battles have ended and the Warrior came home victorious and he was praised as a hero. The Lover quickly ran to him but he gave her no recognition, she pleaded with the locket in hand and explained to him it's importance. He pointed out to her that "that locket is dim and there is no crimson luster to be found". The Lover drove herself to insanity trying to convince the Warrior to love her once more but another path had been laid out before him and he lived his life to it's fullest and the Lover had been imprisoned as a witch for her claims then stoned to death. Seeing the love of her life again was never enough for her.

This concludes our legend but now I have a riddle for you my friends, is the love of the Warrior so fickle that he changed his mind as soon as he was given a second chance? Or is the truth that we are all so greedy that nothing will ever fill the hole left behind by those we've lost even when we say "enough is enough for me"?

Just thought I'd save this as an entry...
