A loving heart
heart For people who don't know of this play or movie, it's about the real events of the murder of Matthew Shephard, a gay 21 year-old college student, that occured in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998
Strange way to start an entry, right? But it's not necassarily the play I want to speak of; it's the reaction that the events/play/movie has apparently gotten ever since the man Moises Kaufman created it by taking his team up there shortly after it happened to conduct interviews.
So my college is doing this play from Oct. 29th to Nov. 6th. It's a great play, and makes one question different things about the people in Laramie or even people in general. Even one's self. And that's what makes this play great.
Now, I was searching the web only minutes ago for some quotes from this when I come across websites that say that "The Laramie Project" is purely a way to say that homosexuality is right, no one should see it due to content (but honestly, what is a person to see these days due to content?), language used, etc.
This is a really terrible way to think of this. The play itself is more of a way to promote peace since the events that happened were indeed a crime. The kid was only 21 at the time. He was taken out to a field and beaten to death...and all because he was gay.
There were (and still are) some people that say that this was partially Shephard's fault, for saying that he was gay. BULLSHIT. What, you're going to seperate that from another crime if it were exactly the same, with the gay exception? What if it was because of the person's religion or skin color?
Still a hate crime.
Just...a different aspect =/ heart
is the beginning of all knowledge
