So I got a visit from two of my boyfriend's adorable nieces today! That was special, even though it was at seven in the morning. But it all worked out because my boyfriend comes home from work at seven. Anyway, they came today and the older one (she's only 3 years old) fell asleep watching a movie that she wanted to watch. The baby was given to my boyfriend's parents to watch. They were here as well. Anyway, almost as soon as the 5 month-old was dropped off, she began to call out for her mommy, her cries growing increasingly louder. They kept asking her what was wrong even though it was painfully obvious. It was so easy to tell what she wanted and what would soothe her. They tried feeding her, to no avail. They tried rocking her, which worked for about five minutes. They tried talking to her, holding her in their laps, and pretty much everything but what she wanted. I couldn't believe that they couldn't figure it out. Oh well. I didn't say anything because it's not my place and I get the sense that they would think that I don't know anything about what she would want. First of all because I don't have any kids of my own yet (probably) and because nobody seems to think (except my boyfriend. He thinks I have a way with kids or something) that I'm very good with kids. But eventually they handed her off to me because they were tired of trying to get her to stop crying. I took her in my arms and walked her around the house, letting her see where she was and letting her look for her mommy. She quieted down within a couple of minutes and I put the bottle near her mouth. She mouthed it for a minute, then started feeding ravenously. That bottle had to have been finished in only a few minutes. No more than three, I would say. I walked her around a little more and soon she fell asleep. I accomplished more than her grandparents could in less than half the time. I'm bragging and I'm sorry, but I think I'm pretty good at kids and I get the feeling that only one person thinks that I'm good with children. Oh well. They thanked me for helping and that's enough. smile
