Valid Hypotheses

"Zack, come on man. Seriously, we have lives." Zack turned and looked at his friends at the door of the lab. "Look, I know, but i'm so close... just... go without me would you?" After a few moments, his friends left. Zack turned towards the screen again and ran a hand through his already tousled red hair. "Come on baby, show me the magic!" He said as his fingers danced across the keyboard.

Zack was an interesting man. He had graduated from high school at the age of fourteen, and had gotten a masters in physics when he hit 20. Now at the age of 26, he worked at a university as a teacher. His students were all beginning in physics, but he enjoyed the sudden understanding look that washed over faces as he lectured. Zack had been working on the hypotheses that teleportation would work if you could focus the molecular structure of an individual and arrange them back into the same order in a different point.

He stood slowly as his fingers continued to click as the large machine behind him began to whir. Transportation by teleportation, a thought that had been mocked for years. Even his friends still couldn't believe that he could do it. But with the right math, the right science, it was possible to break someone down into their molecular form and transport those molecules from one point to another.
"A-a-nd" Click "Go" He turned to look at the stuffed mannequin that stood, propped against the side of the teleporter. There was a fuzzing sound as electricity filled the small area and the doll vanished and suddenly appeared in the other module.

"SON OF A b***h!" he yelled in excitement, "It worked! It freaken worked!!!" He moved over to the mannequin and inspected it, "no signs of damage..." He muttered before moving back to the computer to check the vitals of the pig organs that they had put into it to simulate a real human. They were all in perfect condition. Zack was so excited, he moved over to the camera and checked it, to see if it had indeed caught the miraculous happening. Unfortunately, he had stupidly forgotten to start it. He breathed slightly, he had to see if it would work the other way now. He clicked the record button before moving over to the computer once more and typing for a moment. The teleporter began to whir once more. The human stand in vanished once more and reappeared. A look at the vitals once more and Zack got an urge to test it on himself. Although it was a very bad idea..... The science was right...right? And nothing seemed wrong. Of course, it would have to be tested on creatures that would have an actual heart rate, but he wasn't one for animal testing....

It only took him a little while rig up a way that he could stand in the place of the dummy. He breathed, his protective goggles on his face, just in case. Zack held a button in his hand. He breathed in slowly and out before he hit the button. The sound of fizzing echoed around him, hurting his ears. A strange sensation, like bugs crawling over his skin, washed over him. There was a huge thundering crash, and all went black.

The sound of beeping was the next thing he heard. It was rhythmic and slow. It took him a moment but he knew the sound, it was a heart monitor. He opened his gold eyes and instantly shut them again. The whole room was blinding white, it was obnoxious. "Oh look!" a woman's voice met his inner ear. A soft hand brushed against his forehead. "You've been out for a long time, We were worried about you." Zack opened his eyes and looked up at her. She was pretty, older, perhaps in her fifties. She was in purple scrubs with a bunny on the pocket. "Can you tell me your name honey?" Zack tried to sit up, but she held him down with surprising strength. "Zack." He muttered. His voice sounded off... "Zack Hansen." "Alright Zack." She said sweetly, "Can you tell me what you remember?" Zack finally opened his eyes as he looked around the room. He was in a hospital, it was easy to recognize. "I was in my lab-." he would be in trouble if someone found out that he had put himself in the teleporter before more testing had taken place, "Working..." She looked confused for a moment before she nodded. "Can you tell me your mommy and daddy's name?" He blinked at her, strange that she would refer to his parents like that. "Sarah and-" his eyes had been wandering the room when they hit the bathroom door. It was open and he could see the back of the nurse and looking back at him.... was a child with red hair and golden eyes. The boy couldn't have been more then ten. Zack reached up just as the boy in the mirror did. "what the hell?" he whispered.

Zack had been filled in on the details by the cop that came into his room. He had been found in the lab that had caught fire. Everything in the lab was destroyed, it was a miracle that he had survived in the first place with only minor burns. He couldn't help but sit in his bed, completely lost as to what to do. He was in his ten year old form and without the lab or results to figure out what had happened or what went wrong. What was he going to do?
