Not long before I got off work, my manager said that she needed to speak to me. question And being a little paranoid, sometimes, I wondered what it was that I'd done wrong.
So, while helping another customer, we went into the stockroom to "find" the item...which I certainly knew we didn't have and I'm pretty sure that my manager knew that we didn't have it.
What she wanted to tell me was that some guy called to complain that I made a remark about his daughter's skin color.
Now, to explain....this guy was paying with a charge card that was old, dirty and worn. The register wouldn't/couldn't read the magnetic strip. I tried wiping the strip on some cloth (has helped previously) and even put the card in a plastic bag (has helped previously, too) but no joy. So, he asked if we could use another register. So, I did. Tried the same tricks and it did not work. The guy asked if I could hand key in the numbers of the card. I told him that I could not, that I was not allowed. For security purposes.
The Bad Guys have been known to have cards with their names embossed on the front along with someone else's credit card number. Not to mention other things. Sorry, I'm not going to hand key the number.
The guy makes a comment about how another store was able to hand key the number and THEY didn't have a problem with it. Well goody for them. That's THEIR problem. Not mine.
Well, while we're trying to get the card to go through, I see his daughter. She is a red-head with VERY fair skin. Almost translucent. You only see that skin tone with red-heads only. So, making small talk, I look at the baby and say "Oh my, I bet mama uses 857 SPF on you!" Really, this baby was so fair skinned, I wouldn't take her out on a cloudy day without sunblock.
At the time, he didn't say anything and all his mother said was that they took care of her.
And a few hours later, he called to "complain" rolleyes about my comment about his daughter's skin. I actually answered the phone and he asked to speak to my manager, I transfered the phone her and about a minute later, I heard her paging the store manager. So the guy insisted that he speak to her.
Now, while complaining about my "comment" he did mention that I wasn't able to take his charge card and that I wouldn't hand key it in.
So, if he was pissed off because I because I wouldn't hand key the card, then he should have said so. But, nooooo, he had to complain about my comment about his daughter's fair skin.
If you're going to complain, be a man (or a woman) and complain about the real reason instead of a bullshit one razz , because the management aren't going to take you seriously. In fact, they will just laugh their asses off. rofl And then forget about it. cheese_whine talk2hand stare rolleyes
