The Blood Of Brothers

Section 5: Do Not Dive, In Shallow Water.

1000 HOURS, OCTOBER 19, 2552 (MILITARY CALENDAR) EARTH, GHAN, AUSTRILA.

Knight stared at the glazed metal shell holding him, the rays of the sun jumping off into his eyes. The faint sound of a muffled car engine echoed the SOEIV, Knight stood up stretching his legs for the first time in three hours, three long, hot, miserable, hours. The noise grew louder as Knight said his silent goodbyes to the sand and the small insects which he’s become close to in the past three hours. Knight heard four feet kicking sand as they slowly walked to the SOEIV. A slamming clank his the top of Knights ear drums, the echoes only made things worse, like living in a bell. The SOEIV leap slightly as Knight lost his footing and lent backwards. His SOEIV began to slide on his back with him on his back as well. A hard black armors class S ODST Boot kicked flat on the top of his hatch and then thrust upwards, it was the most beautiful thing Knights seen in hours, something besides metal. Ally reached into the metal pod grabbing the arm of his lost squad mate, “Hell of a trip isn’t it?” Ally said with a strong Irish accent. A SRS99D-S2 AM Sniper rifle hanging from his back, polished, fully disassembled and cleaned every day. Ally Fin scored the highest sniper simulation training exercise course in Knight’s league, with a 98% overall Accuracy. Knight stood up and looked at the M274 ULATV “Mongoose” trailing a long steel rope with a large magnet on the back. He stepped out of the SOEIV rubbing his helmet,
“Yah, Where the hell did you guys get a Mongoose?” Mack stood up from the driver’s seat,
“The Dead Warriors had some, and they won’t be missing it.”
“What did they have?” Knight tried to stick to the mission.
“Some Shiva and FENRIS class nukes, Lots of guns and lots of missiles.” Ally chimed in.
“Hmm. How did they manage to get all these from the UNSC?” Knight inquired
“Reports say there leader was a warehouse worker.” Mack added
“I noticed no one’s vitals went offline. They didn’t give you any trouble.” Knight cheerfully added as he grabbed his BR55HB SR Battle Rifle strapped it over his shoulder and looked at the Mongoose. “How are we getting back?”
“Dusty called some birds in, ours should his dirt side in 10.” Mack looked up at Ally and back at Knight “Your first landing was harsh, good thing you didn’t die. I swear every time we go down, one of these pods seems to have an issue. Guess that’s why they say were insane huh.”
“If you don’t like the heat, Get the ******** out of the oven.” Ally seems to stare at Mack’s complaining. Mack defended his point by simply putting his arms up as if he was holding a falling metal plate to his face.
Ally reached into his ODST A Class holster belt, removing a small canister grenade. This small lightweight tin can with a bright orange stripe couldn’t have harmed anyone, he pulled it’s almost rusting pill and tossed it at least 5 feet from where he was standing. The Orange smoke raced out of the tin can and jumped to the sky, before its journey could continue it was silences with the whirl of the Pelicans engines thrusting the air all around it. The metal bird landed, throwing sand all around the troops. Mack jumped off his Mongoose he was quickly getting attached to. They all walked the metal ramp onto the bird seeing the squadron. This was Knights new squad, the 19th Shock Battalion. One solid black armored man excluding the white stripe on his right shoulder plate. This was Irving Wallers, to the team he was Dusty. To a civilian, he was a nightmare in the shadows. Dusty requested personally Knight was put on his squadron, during a training simulation Knight got the upper hand on a test and his Dusty right above his left eye. This was the only time Dusty was “KIA” in simulations. He wanted a man like that on his team, a lucky son of a b***h.
“You know you are a real lucky b*****d Knight, Lucky we decided to come get you.” Dusty patted Knights black armored shoulder
“Sir, I was really getting accustomed to the SOEIV” He walked to his seat, to his left was Thaddeus Spears, Mack’s younger brother, well one of them at least. “A real twitch this guy is, how in the hell did he get here?” Knight kept saying to himself. To Knights right Virgilio Roods who seemed to be drooling over the sight of so many warheads, it was a bad idea to let him be so close. He loves a good bang, and that’s one hell of a bang. The bay ramp reached the airlock residing at the top of the ship. A thick black filled every inch of this ship, Knight calmly grasped his firearm. This felt good, darkness, where a shadow truly belongs. His meditation was over in seconds once the bay lights blasted on, an ugly color, red. Knight hated this color, the color of his blood. The lights danced elegantly off the faceplates of the ODST. No movement, unless forced by the jolt of the Pelican. They rode in silence, there was nothing to be said, No one is dead, wounded, or missing.
