Fog in the Meadow

Characters:
Daniel Mannor
Mr. Mannor
Mrs. Mannor
Zarlem (Ultimate Evil)
Jessica Benton

Settings:
Mannor Meadow
Mannor House
Zarlem`s Castle

Plot:
Daniel Mannor, 14, was a boy who was raised by two parents that hate everybody and everything, including Daniel. Daniel was also a very important part of the world’s existence. He was, in fact, the reincarnation of a man named Luflex the Wise. Since he was Luflex’s reincarnation, he was going to be part of a prophecy. He was the Recule. The Recule is a past savior of the world, after facing Zarlem.
Zarlem was a dark, mysterious figure from the times of King Arthur. Every 3000 years, Zarlem awoke and sent out to destroy the Recule and take over the world. It was said that he was immortal, due to a potion given to him by his master, Satan. The only way, the prophecy states, to defeat him for good is to lock him in the Portulack Coffin somewhere underneath his castle with the key that he keeps under his dark cloak.

~chpt. 1 “The Evil”~

Daniel was outside mowing the yard. Daniel had many chores that normal kids shouldn’t be doing like cleaning gutters, painting the house, and more terribly hard things. He had to work 24/7 without even a break.
Daniel was very short for his age. He was 14 now and he looked as short as a 9 year old. He also had brown hair with light blue eyes. Daniel wore the same clothes almost everyday because his so called parents never bought him clothes.
Daniel looked at his house and saw his mother standing at the door with a mad look on her face. She yelled, “Daniel Goodwin Mannor, are u done with the yard yet!” his mother was very impatient and never waited for anything that she wanted done.
“Almost, Mother,” he replied
“Well hurry up! You still have a lot of chores to finish!”
Daniel was finally done with his yard work. The Mannors live right in the middle of a giant meadow. When they bought the house 13 years ago, there was a road going straight through the meadow. Daniels parents despised people so much, that they used every cent they had to get rid of the road and make it go around the meadow instead of through it. It’s hard to believe they can afford the house after they used so much money to do it.
Daniel put up the lawn mower and went inside for the paint. Inside his house was many inexpensive objects such as a wooden box for a coffee table, a television as small as a pail, and there were no doors at all in the house just big rags that covered where the doors should have been.
His father was inside the living room watching T.V. He was sitting on his favorite chair that has been torn and scratched after the years of use. All he was wearing was an undershirt and his boxer shorts as he flipped through the channels on the mini-T.V. His stomach stuck out from the bottom of his shirt and had absolutely no hair.
Daniel’s mother was no beauty either. She had ratted and tangled gray hair and always wore a disgusting apron. Unlike his father, Mrs. Mannor was very skinny and almost never watched television. All she did during the day was experiment with different recipes of food. Hard to believe they are both in their younger 30s!
Once Daniel got the paint and his brush he headed back outside to paint the house. He also got his father’s rickety ladder out of the garage. When Daniel put the ladder against the house, he climbed up it and started to paint. The house, once he was done, was supposed to be a bright eggshell white, but thanks to the trees above his house and the rain, it ended up as a dark brown.
After about 2 hours of painting he heard a voice coming from behind him, “Hi there!” the voice said. Daniel quickly turned around and almost fell off the ladder. Behind him was a girl about Daniel’s age with long red hair and dark brown eyes. Daniel jumped of the ladder, falling on the ground, he got up and ran toward the girl and covered her mouth with his hand and pulled her behind a tree.
“Who are you and what are you doing here?” asked Daniel in a whisper.
“I’m Jessica Benton, I just moved here from Pennsylvania,” she replied.
“Look I know you’re new around here but you have to go,” said Daniel afraid that his mother might look outside and see Daniel gone, “This is no place for people to be.”
“If this is no place for people then why is there a house here and why were you painting it?” said Jessica making a point.
“Because I live here and inside that house are the meanest people this side of the state of Missouri. Inside that house are my parents,” said Daniel sounding urgent to get the girl away.
The girl just sat there then a big old grin come onto her face, “Ha ha ha! You’re actually thinking that I would believe that your parents are evil?!”
“Yes!” he replied, “My parents don’t like anyone or anything!” There was a silence between the two. “Look,” Daniel said breaking the silence, “I don’t care if you believe me or not, but you have to go. Now!” Daniel stood up trying to look fearless.
The girl stood up and without a word started to walk do into the meadow. After a few feet she said, “It was nice meeting you….uh?”
“Daniel,” he said as she disappeared into the meadow.
Daniel hurriedly ran back to his house, grabbed his brush and paint, and finished painting the house. When he was done he walked back inside to get some well disserved rest and was thinking about his first conversation with someone other then his parents, even though they never did have a long conversation. Their conversations were always about his chores or being grounded for idiotic things.
Before going to sleep, Daniel took a glimpse outside and saw something strange. When Daniel was outside it was 1:00 and not a cloud in the sky. But at 1:01, in a moments notice there was a giant, blinding fog outside his window.

~chpt. 2 “Fog of Nightmares”~

The fog seemed to appear from out of nowhere. It was a very dark color and couldn’t even see a foot past his window. Daniel jumped out of his already shaky bed and went to his front door to investigate. His parents were already at the door when he left his room. Daniel hid behind a box in the middle of the hallway until they left.
Once gone, Daniel zipped from the back of the box to the door. He opened the door and walked outside into the dark fog.
He couldn’t even see his own hand in front of his face. Daniel walked deeper and deeper into the fog until he reached the gate that surrounded his house. He looked out to see if he could see anything, but he couldn’t.
After standing there for about 5 minutes he started to turn around to go back in and get yelled at by his mother for leaving the house. But as he was turning, something caught his eye. He looked out once more and saw a man in a dark black robe just walking through the fog like it wasn’t there, “Hello? Who’s out there?” Daniel questioned. The mysterious figure turned and was looking straight at Daniel. The two looked at each other for a second but Daniel couldn’t make out the face of the man, due to the fog and his robe’s hood shadowing his face, “Who are you,” Daniel asked.
The man, in a shaky but firm voice said, “You! You are the one I seek!” Unlike an old man, he ran very quickly toward Daniel seeming to want to capture him.
Daniel stepped back as the man got closer. Daniel was terrified and turned around and started to run at quick pace. The man jumped over the gate and continued to pursue him. Once the man was about a foot away, Daniel made it to his house and slammed the door shut, forgetting about his parents. Daniel looked outside of a window next to the front door and saw the man standing just outside the gate. What did that man want with Daniel and how was he able to run that fast!
The next day, Daniel looked outside and the man was still outside of the gate. His parents hadn’t noticed and told him to go outside to paint the house’s second layer of paint on. He knew he shouldn’t question them or else they would do something bad to him and he couldn’t even imagine what. Even though Daniel was frightened about the man outside the gate, he had to go out and finish the house. So Daniel picked up all of his supplies and opened the door to go outside. When the door was fully open, Daniel saw the man looking straight at him, but not running toward him.
Daniel started to climb up the ladder when he heard a sudden wind. He looked behind him and that giant fog was coming back and also the man was walking toward Daniel. The man was walking like his age now but had a very eerie smile on his face. It was as though he was being tickled by ghost except he wasn’t laughing and his smile didn’t all that happy.
Daniel was so scared he was frozen on the ladder. Also with that fog rolling in, he thought he wasn’t going to survive this. His mind was racing with all the good times he had with his parents and how much he thought of them. Daniel couldn’t find a thing.
The man was very close now. But once he got closer, Daniel noticed something. There was a dark cloud all around his body, like an evil aura. That was very strange to see an elderly man, or anyone else for that matter, having a cloud of energy.
Daniel took a deep breath and closed his eyes, waiting for his demise. Out of nowhere, though, came a familiar voice, “Hey you! Get away from him!” Daniel opened his eyes and saw Jessica jumping over his gate. She grabbed a stick and started pelting the man, “Get away from him!” she screamed once more, while hitting him with the stick. The man turned around and stared at her. The man lifted his hand and the hand that was lifted was starting, amazingly, to pull some kind of magic toward it. The man was now holding somewhat of a black ball of smoky energy. He aimed the ball of energy toward Jessica and suddenly the ball flew toward her and blew her back toward the gate.
The man turned around once again and stared at Daniel, still on the ladder. Daniel was so frightened but he had to get off that ladder. He slowly started to climb down the ladder when he felt a cold gust of wind from behind him. He looked behind him again and the fog was at the house along with the man.
The man reached out to grab Daniel, exposing his old, bony hand. He grabbed Daniel on the ankle and started to pull Daniel to get him down. Daniel thought he was doomed, once again, but something happened. The fog was drifting away and the man was looking straight at it while it left. The man looked back at Daniel, only to turn away at the light of the sun, rising on the other side of the Mannor house. The man seemed to give a ghostly screech as he let go of Daniel and ran off into the forest. Was the sun some kind of poison to him?
Daniel looked across his yard and saw Jessica lying on the ground. Daniel jumped off the ladder and ran to Jessica.
Jessica, who looked like she was dead, was lying on the ground. When Daniel reached her, he picked her up and took her behind a tree to hide her.
“Jessica? Are you okay?” Daniel asked as though talking to himself. She did not move at all, “Jessica?” Daniel said again, more frantic this time, “Jess—“
At that, Jessica woke up, “Ow…My head. What happened? Who was that man?” she said weakly, “I was just walking up to him and then...noting.” she got up but stumbled due to the dramatic impact to the fence. The next time she got up, she welt a sharp pain in her leg and looked down at it. Daniel, too, looked down and saw that her leg was cut open on the side. Blood was staining her pants and it was still coming out. Jessica lie back down and felt her head. She felt a bid bump on head. She then felt the back of her neck and felt something strange, “Daniel, do you see something on my neck?”
Daniel, who was wrapping her leg in some cloth from his shirt, looked at her neck. There was something on the back of her neck, but Daniel couldn’t describe it. It seemed to be a black hole in the back of her neck. It was about the size of a quarter and seemed, also, to be spinning slowly in circles, “Uh…I need to tell you something.

~Capt. 3 “The Podes Spore”~

“A HOLE! A BLACK HOLE!” yelled Jessica after Daniel had told her about her neck, “What do you mean? A hole, that’s spinning in the back of my neck?”
