Armel raised an eyebrow as he watched Adrien. Her eyes seemed to light up, and she seemed animated, alive. She was addressing the vampire master, he thought, although it couldn’t have been THE vampire master. No, it sounded like she was talking about someone else, another vampire perhaps. A cold chill went through his spine, although he had known it was a likely possibility. There were other vampires in this mansion. That complicated the situation tremendously. He knew nothing about the master of the house, but from Kyoko’s words, he had guessed that it was probably a male who had lascivious tendencies. Lovely.
He looked up when he heard the small squeal. His mouth twitched at the corners. “A squealer are you now?”
His tone was light enough.
He leaned back on the railings, watching her through his long eyelashes, as he listened to her talk. A smile played on his lips. “Nice to see you’re feeling better, love.”
He heard Kyoko’s voice, and looked over at her. The world seemed somehow grayer, colder. The shadows more definite. He watched the play of emotions over her face. She had come to the same conclusion, he surmised. So he said nothing. Because words would have been a waste. He watched the light flicker off of her expressive eyes, the way set of her eyes. She was thinking, he mused, about something. She knew something, Armel thought then. He was sure that she had been here for far longer then the rest of them. He listened to her suggestion then, and set his jaw for a moment. He smiled then.
“And would those people happen to be slaves?”
He looked up and down the stairs for a moment.
‘You wouldn’t happen to know a convenient and secret location where we lie low, as there dosen’t seem to be many hiding places along the stairwell.”
