PART 5
Fumiko felt hard wood beneath her, but above that was a thick layer of blankets. Off to the side where her outstretched hand lay on the floor she weakly grasped onto a pillow, and in her other hand she still held the medallion she had taken from Asumas pocket before burying him. She felt a blanket on top of her, and a bandage tied around her head and torso. She could smell the aroma of meat being cooked, and her ears twitched as she could her the bubbling of the pot opposite where she lay in the room. Silently she cracked open a bright green eye to peer at her surroundings. In the corner, stirring the pot, was a teenage boy. He had shaggy brown hair, several shades darker than Fumikos. She couldn’t help but growl deep in her throat. The boy looked up with bright blue eyes, searching for the source. She sat up and growled again, staring at him. She quickly scanned the room for an exit, closing the front of her shirt upon seeing that it had been undone for bandaging and all that covered her was a white tank-top. She got up and leaped over to where the window was, paused to open it and jumped out side.
“Hey, wait!” a voice called after. She skittered on all fours out to the front of the house and noticed a large oak tree that towered stories above her. She gladly jumped up and found a spot about a third of the way up and sat down, watching the sun setting in the distance. “Hey!” the voice called upwards. She looked down to see him standing near the base of the tree. She curled her tail in mild distaste.
“What?” she asked loudly so he could hear, but agitation rang clearly in her voice.
“You’re hurt! You should rest more or you’ll open your wounds back up.” he shouted up to her.
“What do you care if my wounds do not heal? You are not the boss of me.” she responded, flipping the medallion thoughtfully in her hand.
“So? That doesn’t mean you can’t take my advice!” he called back at her. She could see him giving her a clearly agitated look.
“Feh. Humans.” she muttered to herself. She laid back on the branch and a jolt of pain raced across her spine. “Ow!” she hissed sharply, sitting back up and putting a hand on her back.
“Told you. Now come down, please. Dinners almost ready.” he trailed off and walked into the hut of a house and she heard him sigh. She sighed herself and flipped down, landing harshly on her legs and sending another jolt of pain up her spine. She cursed and stalked into the house.
She entered the cozy environment
