*FLASH BACK*
“Asuma, no!!” she screamed, throwing her arms out to protect him. A sharp metal blade slashed across her back and blood exploded out of her mouth. Asuma smiled weakly at her from his position in front of her. He strung his bow and aimed right underneath her ear. The arrow whistled past and struck the enemy with the sword between the eyes. She whirled around, still keeping her arms out and bared her fangs menacingly.
“Neko-chan! You’re hurt! Stand down!” Asuma ordered, flinging his black hair out of his eyes and refitting an arrow in his bow.
“No! Please…do not order me to do as such. I will not stand by and let you fight them alone. I’m not a kitten anymore!” she defended, pulling her arms in and curling her tail. Asuma laughed behind her and fired another arrow, striking down another enemy.
“If you insist.” he allowed, “Prove it to me, Neko-chan. Show me how you’ve grown.” he added, smiling at her with grim knowledge. She yowled and charged fiercely, baring her claws at her opponent. The tall hooded figure hurriedly pulled out a gun, and loaded in a bullet with intense rapidity. She growled and her eyes widened in a sickening manner, which made the man hurry all the more. He pointed the gun forward and squeezed the trigger, she jumped up and easily dodged the bullet, hurtling herself toward the man.
She latched her claws onto the man’s head through the thin layer of material and buried them in the soft flesh. The man screamed as she touched his skull with her sharp nails. She scowled grimly and hardened her grip, standing on his shoulders to gain support. She twisted and jumped, flipping in the air and producing a horrifying ripping noise. The head of the man bounced on the ground weakly as it sputtered in its last moments, the body falling limply to the ground bleeding profusely from the severed neck. The cat girl walked over and put her clawed foot on the side of the head, growling angrily at it. Then she forced it down, crushing the skull deftly under her foot.
“Well then,” Asuma commented, from his spot, where he had drawn his sword and began slashing away at the hoard of attackers. “I suppose that brutal display makes you an adult?” he asked comically.
“No,” she replied, running on all fours to join him, “Protecting you from enemies makes me an adult.” she said, swinging her leg around above her and knocking over several of the bad guys.
“That’s funny, Fumiko,” he said slyly, and laughing heartily, “I thought you were only an adult when I pronounced you one.” he swung the sword over her head and stabbed a bald man through the throat.
“Since when do you use my real name?” she asked both seriously and mockingly. Jumping up and kicking a man in the face with both feet, she caused him to crash down onto the ground.
“Since you started acting more like a human and a friend, than a beast and a servant,” he replied, taking a moment to smile at her genuinely.
