poem
You Tell on Yourself
You tell on yourself by the friends you seek,
By the very manner in which you speak.
By the way you employ your leisure time,
By the use you make of your dollars and dimes.

You tell on yourself by the things you wear,
By the way you fuss about combing your hair.
By the kind of things that make you laugh,
By the cd's you play on your new phone, o' graph.

You tell on yourself by the way you act,
Whe asked to do an unpleasant task.
By the way you treat your friends and foes,
When they're concerned with worries and woes.

You tell on yourself by the way you walk,
By the many things of which you delight to talk.
By the excuses you make when you try to cheat,
And even by the choices in the foods you eat.

Don't tell me who you really are,
Show me by the way you drive your car.
Or help a friend, who needs a hug,
When she's been betrayed by her boyfriend, Doug.

Tell on yourself by being fair,
By not complaining, and by doing your share.
By being honest and kind to all,
By helping another when they're about to fall.

The things you do tell me who you are,
Far better than your row of bright glittering stars.
In these ways, and more, you tell on yourself,
Tells me more about you,
Than all the scrap books on your shelf.

So there is not a particle of sense,
For you tto try and keep up such a false pretense.
