I've written a short story for a Writer's Fest, and have decided to post it for your enjoyment as well as mine. NO TOUCHY, EYES ONLY.
Prelude
Clash
The rain poured down the head of a cloaked figure. As the lightning struck, another cloaked figure stepped out of the shadows. The arena-like street corner held two opponents, but there could only be one victor. The first cloaked figure pulled the hood off his head, and it revealed the face of a boy, no older than seventeen, with blond hair and green eyes. He said something to the other figure, but the combined noise of the rain and thunder droned out his words. Twin daggers flashed into the boy’s hands. The boy, who called himself Davey, charged with his daggers ready to strike. The other hooded figure flashed a massive two-handed sword into his hands, and answered Davey’s attack. Their blades clashed, and the noise barely audible through the constant downpour. The duo’s clash escalated up to the skyscrapers of the nearby buildings. They continued their fight as the hooded figure leapt off of the building, and Davey pursued. Even in freefall, neither combatant lost a step. Davey’s blades swung with speed and elegance, while the cloaked figure’s two-hander swung with rage and raw power. They landed on the ground as softly as a feather, and they leapt backwards from one another. As they stood, the clouds peeled away from the sky, revealing a starry night. The starlight revealed the face of Davey’s opponent, and Davey charged. The cloaked figure swung his massive blade, and the lightning struck. The duo stood, each one’s back faced their respective opponent’s back. The second cloaked figure fell to his knees, and Davey sheathed his daggers. There was quiet, and Davey heard his attacker’s final words:
“You’re just like me.”
