Winter has finally arrived here! It's been rather warm here with only a few days actually in lower 40s. About 2 a.m. this morning I had to take out the dogs (why this late is anyone's guess because they really didn't need to).
There were little bitty snowflakes falling! Whee! Why the excitement over a few flakes? Winters are mild here, with temps mostly in the mid 30s to lower 40s and very little snow, if any. Getting a forecast with "wintry precipitation" in it is greeted by thongs flocking to the grocery who strip the shelves of the essentials (beer, bread, milk, potato chips and toilet paper ... crazy but true) and by school kids praying and crossing their fingers.
In other words, South Carolinians + "wintry precipitation" = temporary insanity.
The mini-snow flurry was short-lived. We were only received a glancing blow of the icy mix which glazed the pine trees' needles and not the roads. Erring on the side of judgment, the school districts first had a two-hour delay then called off school altogether.
Though I'm not a big fan of really cold weather, I do like the ocassional winter blast, especially if we get another chance for snowflakes (which might be Sunday or Monday ... will let you know if we do). xd
