Demyx sat beside the sleeping child, stroking her hair gently. Mayura Senka was quite possibly the sweetest creature he had ever met. At least, as Demyx. He had been told the girl's lurid past by Riku, and he felt sorry for her. To lose her father in such a violent manner was a terrible experience for an 8-year-old.
It took a moment for the Melodius Nocturne for realize that the girl was awake, and when he did, he smiled at her. "Somethin' wrong?" he asked, turning so he sat fully on her bed.
She gave a small whimper that pulled at him. "Nightmare," she replied.
Demyx tucked her in again and produced his sitar. As he played, he watched Mayura's fear-veiled features dissolve into peace, and once he'd finished, she was curled up against his side, sleeping. Demyx wrapped his arms around her.
"It must have been a living Hell for you," he muttered. "You lost your ma, your da, and then you had your heart stolen. You're lucky you didn't become a Nobody. S'not all it's cracked up to be. It's not exactly a happy existence. But things are lookin' up. We're making our own lives now, doin' what we're good at or what we love. Things change, Mayura, and the past is the past. You can't change it. It makes you stronger." He lay her back and kissed her softly on the forehead as he tucked her in. "We're makin' our own destiny, kiddo. Yours is still unwritten." He replaced himself on the bed and continued playing his sitar long into the night as he sat by her side.
