As I shot down the runway and into the morning sky in my F/A 18 Hornet, I could hear command ordering us through the earpiece of our helmets:
"Loral Squadron, this is AWACS Tomcat. Your orders are clear, protect the base at all co-" Static trailed that statement as I saw a missile hit the base of the radio tower out of the corner of my eye.
"There's no way we could take them all." Thorn, one of my not-so-optimistic wingmen said as he pulled in formation towards me.
"Stop being such a wuss!" Reaver, always there to lighten the mood responded as he fell in.
"This isn't the time to screw around! Vandal, what are we supposed to do!" Knight the newest addition to our squadron.
I stared at the slowly approaching bombers and escort fighters my radar clicked with the satisfying ping of a missile lock-on.
"Get ready for the dogfight of your life guys," I shouted as I flipped the missile safety switch.
