Butterfly and Bat

This week I went and chased butterflies in my garden. There were many butterflies since the lavender is now in bloom. There were little purple ones and big red ones flying from bloom to bloom. I would watch them flutter about and then try to get it to sit on my hand. lol that didn’t work to well so the chase was on!! After I had ran about 5 miles just going in circles I decide to get something to drink. KoolAde was on the menu and I took a big gulp of the sugary dark purple liquid. It was a little warm but still just what I needed. I sat on a stone bench next to the lavender. The aroma filled the air like a sweet perfume. I laid back and rested on the willow tree behind me. I smiled at the fluttering purple and red butterflies all around me. I reached for my glass again wishing for more of the purple sweetness. In like a dreamy trans I raised the cup to my lips but as my eyes opened. Ahhhh!! I drop the cup from my hand and it falls to the stone bench beside me. The sweet purple splashes all around me, as well on my knee. But my eyes weren’t looking at the spill I was in a trance by a floating white winged butterfly with a dark head. “You scared me butterfly.” I said to it. Taking no heed to my cry it floated down to the bench. “Oh all of my Koolade.” I whined. The white butterfly only floated around to the middle of the purple puddle and landing. “Well at least it won’t go to complete waist” I giggled. In all the activity I lost all track of time and I noticed that the sun had already set behind the mountain. “Hmm this is a perfect time for firefly hunting. Shall we go?” I asked the white butterfly. He didn’t give a direct answer being a butterfly, but he did take off and start to go off to the right. I fallowed and soon found some fireflies which I caught and put into a lantern for light in the dark. Then while running to get a firefly I saw what I thought was a bat! I quickly caught the little firefly and when in search of the bat. The white butterfly and I searched for the bat but he was gone so we just stood in the mist of the garden trying to decide who the boss of the situation was and which way to go. But it seemed that the white butterfly and I were both the bosses of the each of us fallowed the path but in our own way. Then out of the blue came the bat again. He flapped his wings above us but didn’t fly away. He seemed to be a nice bat and I said hi to him. He gave out a squeak and flapped around. He seemed to be looking for bugs and I told him that I was hunting for fireflies. The white butterfly seemed to be getting tired and flew off to the lavender patch for the night leaving me and the bat to look for more bugs and fireflies. We search high and low, right and left for bugs and fireflies. When I noticed that the bat also seemed to like paper and landed on the ground just to put them on his head. This made me chuckle I never heard of a bat wearing paper hats before but there was a first time for everything. I saw that orange paper made vary good hats and maybe I could search for orange paper to make an orange hat for me. So we searched for fireflies and paper for hats until midnight and I had my fill of searching. “Bye bye, bat hope to see you again some time.” As I left with the fireflies in the lantern to light my way I came across a single yellow flower. “What a perfect ending to the nights search.” I thought. And looking back to the garden I wondered if next time the white butterfly could help us look for paper for hats for us all. biggrin

This is a beautiful short story, Robyn. 3nodding

I identified with both bat and butterfly in this piece, as these are both totem animal guides for me. I once had a vivid dream about a purple bat -- so vivid that I could almost touch this beautiful creature as it flew over my head -- the only way I knew the bat was not *real* was that it was shaded dream-purple.

The dream-bat helped me make an important decision in my life at that time, giving me true direction . . . and this, truly, is an example of the wonder and power of our imaginations. Dream-guides to help us find our way, like in your story.

I have grown lavender plants in my garden, as well as mint and other herbs, so I know of this scent you write about so very well. I also do origami, Japanese paper folding (since I was six years old) so yes, as a Bat, I would love to make you an orange hat . . . especially in time for Halloween. (smiling gently)

Orange has been a very important colour for me, as well as green. If you care to follow this link http://pic2.piczo.com/batchic-graphix/?g=22837860&cr=2
you will find yourself on my Orange Profile Page at my piczo website.

Green is for nature: the pixies, the elves, and the trees that thoughtfully shade us.
Orange is for the rounded scent of citrus, and like yellow -- harnesses the sun for creative energy, thinking and healing.

I thank you, very sincerely, for leading me to your Garden of Butterfly and Bat.
Both butterfly and bat are symbols of transformation, and gives us wings of flight, to help us on our life journeys.

Peace to you, dear friend!
xx dee

PS: I think a magic purple dream-bat would enjoy a taste of your purple Koolade as well. heart
