The Secret of Joy
Part One The Fire
A faint sound of an explosion could be heard in the distance, if you were outside in the woods like Joy and her father. "What was that?!" Joy's father exlaimed, hearing the faint boom in the distance. "Joy, would you clime that tree and try and see what caused that sound?" he said, looking towards his only daughter, 12 now, she was. "Yes, Father." Joy replied, jumping into the tree with grace and ease. she jumped up on every branch, barely making any sound until she came to the very top, where she scanned the landscape. Joy spotted a cloud of smoke in the distance, and she focused her senses on trying to find out more. she thought she heard the faint crackle of a fire, but if it was a calm fire, she would not be able to hear it. a scream reached her ears. she saw some birds fly out of a tree, the tree falling down, making another faint boom. once this tree fell, she could see the tips of flames in the neighboring village. The other trees burning, screaming, death. The whole village was on fire. Joy gasped. "Father! The neighbor village is on fire!" she screamed down to her father, and jumped down a couple branches, then just jumped to the ground all together, landing with one foot on the ground, the opposite hand on the ground, one knee on the ground, opposite hand bent back. she stood up straight and ran to him, panic in her face. Her father looked stunned. "Joy, is this true? we must go back and warn the elder! the fire or whatever caused it might get to our village, we must evacuate everyone!" The gathered there things and ran back to their hut in their village, dropped off their things. Joy's mother was there, and she looked suprised to see them home so early. "Your back already? I thought you said you would be gone for three days. it hasn't even ben one yet!" she stood up from her chair, and walked accross the room to them just when they were about to leave. She saw the panic on Joy and her father's face. "whats wrong?" Joys father stepped forward, and told her about the fire. "well, what are we waiting for? Tell the elder!" They all ran to the elders hut, barged through the door, and the elder got out of his chair, took his walking stick, and walked over. "what is all the fuss about, young ones?" he said, adjusting his specticles. "is it urgent?" Joys father stepped forward once more. "The neighbor village has caught fire, sir. we came to warn you to evacuate the village in case the fire, or whatever caused it, gets to our village" The elder looked at him sternly. "how bad is the fire?" Her father looked at Joy, then backed away. It was Joy's turn to speak. "Joy, you came apon seeing this? please, tell me" his voice became less urgent, and made Joy feel better. "Yes, sir. Father and I were camping in the woods when we heard a tree fall but we didnt know that it was a tree, so Father told me to climb a tree to find out what it was, and I saw a bunch of trees fall down, and behind them I saw the fire. I heard screaming and more booms, sir. I want to help the village, but how can we? The whole place was on fire!" Joy looked concerned and scared. "But I dont want our village to burn, either." This put a quick smile on the elders face for a moment. "ah, yes. Eric, Samantha, please evacuate the village at once. make sure nobody is left behind" he looked at Joy. "I will see about the neighbor village, Joy. But I dont know what we can do to help them. by what you described, it seems as if all is lost for them. but you were good to first care about the people in the other village. it just shows your dedication toward others, and how good you are to this world. come with me, my girl. we will wait while the village evactuates" The elder took her by the shoudler. Her father opened her mouth to speak in protest in protection for his daughter, but the elder knew what he was doing. "Dont worry, Eric. I will make sure Joy is safe." he waved goodby as they left.
