The New Kids -> Yuki & Minhyuk

Yuki's parents are professors/researchers, specializing in anomalies and the supernatural! (One of them is a philosophy prof and the other teaches literature, though). They moved to Nowhereville because of all the supernatural happenings, and developed these glasses that let them see the creatures. They're trying to map where the portals are opening up (and WHY they are opening up in the town), and dabble a bit in the magic arts. It's more of a science, really! Her parents don't really do adventuring and field work anymore, since they're getting old (60s!). Yuki is adopted, and an only child.

Anyways, Yuki's kind of a weird kid because she grew up dissecting weird creatures and talking about paranormal. Also she wears the cool glasses so she can see the magic s**t even if normal people can't. So she didn't have a lot of friends in the places she's previously lived.

Minhyuk is the ignored middle child from an immigrant family. They originally moved from South Korea to Manhattan, where he went to a large school and found solace in the school's welcoming GSA. He loves art, and intended to become a model and then hopefully a fashion designer, with plans to debut in New York and then eventually move to Paris or Milan. However, his family finished up their two-year contract with the local convenience store.... so they moved to a city in suburban Oregon. Sad. Being the new kid in grade 12 is hard, especially in a small town with no queer representation (but surprising a lot of POC? does the author have an ulterior agenda?).

Also, for some reason, Minhyuk doesn't need special glasses but can see ALL the supernatural s**t. Like Erin, he can see everything but can only communicate with a small group of creatures, such as the yokai. He really doesn't want to be part of the town-saving group, but unfortunately he befriended Yuki.
