The Literacy of a Newbie
Has anyone ever noticed how often people will type with numerous errors? Of course, there's the many examples of PMs and posts (or whole threads themselves) that don't have capitalization or even proper sentence structure. I was reading an email from a teacher that seems to be rather well educated, but while they typed up whole, reasonable paragraphs, they never seemed to capitalize or care if they spelled things wrong. My band instructors will mass forward emails and there are even more mistakes.
I know that if I'm typing to any adult, I read over my message numerous times to make sure that it's formal and straight to the point. However, anything I recieve seems like no one spent time on it because the replies are so illiterate. Does that ever make you think that the person didn't consider your request enough?
I know that people are buy, but it doesn't take that long to type things up correctly the first time, does it?
Do you check things that you write to people? How minimum does the value of the message have to be for you to not care enough about grammar? How important does it have to be for you to re-read it and check it fifteen times?
Please feel free to share your experiences.
