You guys can have him, when he takes up the cap room and someone needs to go, Vancouver will gladly take Hannan. 3nodding
You wish, thankfully we have a lot of cap space, especially with the increase in salary cap.
As for the State of the Sharks at the end of the season:
As for the offseason, the Sharks need four things:
1. A coach of any kind assistant or what not to improve the power play
2. A veteran top defenseman : I hear some big names maybe an opition
3. More grit with a little bit of scoring touch : lots of players here
4. Center good at faceoffs for the third line
With Nabokov not playing a single game in the playoffs leads me to believe that his days in San Jose are over. However he just signed a 4 year 21 million dollar so I can't imagine there will be a ton of takers, but at same time a lot of teams could do worse. There really are not a lot of goalies on the market.
We should atleast be able to get a checker or two for Nabokov, but probably not that top defenseman. As for the third line center, that where we really missed Mike Ricci this year. We need another great veteran like him. Not a huge stats guy, but always seemed to be there when it was most important.
Next year and the future does look bright with Thornton and Cheechoo continuing to gel and Marleau with Milan and Bernier. It would be nice to see that third line get going like we did in 03-04. Of course with all the rookies we had, will have another year and playoff experience under their belts. That's why it was so important to make the playoffs this year.
In the immeadate future, the Fresno Falcons our ECHL team is down 3-2 in the conference finals and they have been playing great regardless of the series outcome and the Cleveland Barons will be moving to Worchester and becoming the Sharks for the next season.
While I course I'm disappointed that we didn't win the Stanley Cup this year, I realize it is a process and we are defintely heading in the right direction.
Anyway until October... it's baseball season for me.
I don't do that bandwagon stuff...
I will root against the oilers though blaugh
It could be worse, I could be a Canucks fan... mrgreen (j/k) Were in the same boat now, just watching...
Finally I would like to end with my thanks and best wishes to Drew Remenda. Drew worked his last game with the Sharks yesterday and we all here in San Jose family will miss him. Drew is going to be staying Regina to be close with his family. Drew was with the Sharks since we first began. Drew was an assistant coach with the Sharks in our early days and then with the Sharks either on the radio or the color man on TV like he has been in last couple of seasons. We loved your honest opinions about the game, even when that meant calling the Sharks out. While there will be a new partner in the booth with Randy, there will never be another Drew. I'm not sure what will happen to Shark Byte, but maybe Danny will take it over, but it's not going to be the same.
Thankfully Drew is only a website away. Drew hosts the Drew Remenda Sports Show on 980 AM CJME in Regina and we can all listen live through the internet feed. It's 5pm-7pm PST for us west coast fans.
As the season comes to an end. I remind myself that nothing lasts forever. The times, dates and people change, but concepts stay the same. It will indeed be another long summer without a drink from Lord Stanley, but we'll be back just like we always are when the leaves begin to fall and burn brown.
Until then everyone enjoy the rest of the postseason and offseason and GO SHARKS !
