Feeling: Annoyed emotion_bigvein
Listening to: Nick Pitera - Phantom of the Opera Medley
So today in Sociology class, one person said this one really irritating thing that went like this:
"If you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain."
What the actual ********? How the hell does that work? If you don't vote, can it then be assumed that you didn't try to change the world? & Therefore, that you don't have the right to complain? Well, don't you think that's a little bit presumptuous? Personally, I think it's the opposite. Rather, if you do vote is when you don't have the right to complain.
People are gonna complain regardless-- it's only when you do vote that you shouldn't be complaining. Because you voted for whatever limited options there were.
The reason why I don't vote is because I know that there's never going to be a perfect option. But isn't that what we all want? A perfect option? A perfect political power that would create the perfect world?
Yet what have we all been singing these past few years? Don't we already know that no such world exists? Perfection is a completely subjective ideology-- some people may see it in some things or people, but, it won't be so for another person's views.
Why does voting even exist? People have the right to vote, and that's absolutely fine. I would rather have a democracy than have either communism or dictatorship. But do you know why voting exists? It's because no matter what, be it world politics or even as simple as deciding what to have for lunch, so long as more than only one person exists, there will always be differing opinions. And that's why voting exists. So that people can choose what they want.
But therein lies the trick. The problem with it, is that we are being allowed to supposedly choose for what we want, but we can't really! Because as I've said before, there is only a set choice of options. What you may actually want may not even be a choice! Why? Because they said so.
So [******** you if you're telling me that I shouldn't have the right to complain. I just ******** did.
