My Life As I Present It (:
Writing, venting, escapism.
A Singularity
Mood: Conflicted gonk
Listening to: Boyce Avenue - Demons

Today in Sociology, the lecturer mentioned a famous quote by this biologist, Jonas Salk. It goes like this:

"If all the insects on Earth disappeared, within 50 years all life on Earth would end. If all the human beings disappeared from the Earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish".

Wow. That's true, isn't it..? If people did die out, everything else would thrive. People are like a virus on this planet. Aren't they? This planet is dying. Compared to how long this planet has been alive, human beings were only there for a tiny tiny fraction of it. And yet, in that short period of time, we began progressing much faster than anything else on this Earth ever has. And that marks the beginning of the moment when the planet started to decline.

Of course, progress has been useful. Right from the start, we learned how to use tools. Then we learned how to make our own, more efficient tools. That's how we survived. Little by little, our tools became better. Sticks led to stone, stone led to bronze, and bronze paved the way for iron. And that's how we began to progress into these beings with the potential for hyper-intelligence. We dominate this planet. We monopolize every single resource we can. And then we weren't just surviving anymore. We were thriving!

Us humans, well, we completely blow the natural order out of proportion. Our population is so high, and we're still trying to make room for more. That is, we're still trying to move into other animals' habitats! Where my own house stands, used to be a place where one could see rabbits aplenty! Wild rabbits! I feel so guilty, knowing that. Sickness and diseases hardly affect us anymore, considering how advanced medicine is for us now. I'm not saying I'm not thankful for it, but it's just unnatural.

And the idea of the survival of the fittest or selective breeding is out of the game completely. The gene pool is completely messed up and we end up with people that just ridiculously stupid and are just a bane to the rest of society.

Those who know me, would know that I'm not a big fan of people at all. I'm highly judgemental and I act on my prejudices whenever I deem someone as useless. Don't get the wrong idea though. What I mean by highly judgemental is that I'm constantly gauging other people, because that's what I like to do. I like to imagine what other people are thinking of, and what kind of person they are. Of course, I'm willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt; in fact, I love doubting people. But some people, I just know are better non-existent.

Now here's the conflict part.

All that said, I have to admit, I actually do like some people. I'm a hopeless romantic at heart, and even though I am highly cynical too, there are of course people I'm more than happy to spend my time with. People I'd skip sleep over just to speak with. And I'd like to note that I love sleeping.

There's a girl who comes in to mind right now. And no, it's not C. She's.. distant, now. But anyway, there is a girl that I like. And for all my doubts of humanity, for all the things I complain about.

She's the singularity. heart heart

I like your journal entries, you write very well. I am always fascinated by what's on some people's minds and I like hearing about nearly anyone's life and such and such. =>
