Plot Ideas
Just what it says.

The stars hold power over us in more ways than you might expect. For thousands of years, humans have gazed up at the balls of light and wondered what they were. We came up with many 'answers' like 'spirits of the dead come to watch us' or 'balls of gas burning miles and miles away', but no matter what we did, the next generation always comes up with a new solution that beats out the old, and it wasn't long until we sent humans in all their intellectual glory out to scout the stars themselves. Little did they realize that the stars were great gods that played with the fate of humans like dolls.
Yes, that's right, the stars are shining gods that use us as their play toys. It was one careless mistake that lead to their discovery, the mistake of the very one who created the precious dolls. Humans were not meant to have certain information- their minds were artificial, flawed intentionally so that they were physically incapable of comprehending the existence of the beings. But the great master, his name standing as only 'The Master', longed to see his little creations become as great and powerful as he himself one day. It was painful for him to see the creatures, so like his own race, run around with dreams of success in their own right only to find out that it was all for naught.
He pleaded with his fellows to allow the humans the capacity to comprehend the secrets of the universe, he begged and tried with all his might to convince them. But even the almighty Master had his flaws, and he could not show the others his ways. Naturally, the Master was greatly respected and his opinion held high value, but the stars simply could not see why their only toys should become real people. Could you imagine, having their own feelings and everything? So the Master did something that would go down in history even past his lifetime.
He fixed the humans anyway.
It was an outrage.
Before the humans had caught on, several of the strongest and most willing stars cast themselves unto the race to hold them back while someone tried to set things right. The master had hung himself in despair when he heard of this, so the other stars had to figure it out for themselves.
The few that did cast themselves became partially human, and thus forgot all of their godly pasts while still retaining their powers. Those who cared for the gods would have wishes granted- those who hindered them would be hurt in any way possible.
The existence of such beings, so naive and malleable, spread wildly amongst the greedy, and before long the five individuals were being hunted down to become slaves.
Meanwhile, the stars continued to fumble over a solution to their problem- if things continued, the humans would gain control of even the strong stars sent down to help slow their progress. Unfortunately, the creator was a special type of star that had long since died out, and because of who he was, creating a people like the humans was child's play to him, while to others it would take an incredible number years to do. Just when they came up on something, a flaw arose, and they had to start all over again. The cycle continued for an eternity, it seemed. Eventually, a group oft stars was sent down to earth to study the humans. They were displeased with the society, however, and started to make changes... a dystopia ensued.
So now, with the stars ruling earth as a dystopia, half-stars waiting to be captured, and humans trying to solve the mysteries of the universe, what will happen? A prophecy that arose soon afterwards holds the answer.

The Prophecy:
"The beings that hold our greatest desires- those which we covet so,
Are not just anyone's toy to use.
If we turn to the elements that look us after,
we will find the key to their undoing."

The stars were distraught. They had found the key to using the halflings! This could not stand...
In an attempt to nullify the wills of the humans, the stars locked the six halflings away in certain parts of the world so that no one could find them. But as the humans continued to comprehend their own existence, they figured out the secret: the beings who had compatible souls (souls of the same element as their respective star) could sense the presence of a star nearby. Those pure of heart could also unbind the halflings and use them to their advantage. A group of journeyers set out to change the dystopia and save the world, but pure hearts could be evil or good... which will you turn out to be?

Along the way, some humans managed to unlock the mysteries and gain some of the stars' great power. They could grant minour wishes and perform certain magical actions, but not like the halflings could. They had their own free will.
